New Puntarena Tourism Development underway in the Dominican Republic

The Puntacana, Rizek, Selman and Reid groups are working together on the development of a brand new tourism development in the Dominican Republic. Puntarena is a $1.5 billion project that is currently underway in the lesser-known southern province of Peravia.

The tourism development is being built in Sabana Buey in the municipality of Bani, on 15.5 million square metres of land that span eight miles of picturesque coastline. Only six million square metres will be developed, and the rest will safeguard the surrounding natural landscapes.

Located just 30 miles from Santo Domingo and its international airport, the tourism project will have an ecological reserve, and a public beach, with all services and facilities managed by the GPC Foundation Institute. The development of the tourism hub will be split into five stages, and the first stage Bahai Flamenco has already been launched.

When completed, Bahia Flamenco will have single-family residential units, a hotel with 600 apartments boasting views of the mountains and ocean, and a luxury hotel with 4,400 guest rooms and suites and an array of facilities. There will also be a yacht marina, stables, a sports club, a beach club, ecological trails, and commercial services and facilities such as cafes, shops and restaurants.

In a recent statement, the developers of Puntarena said that their aim is to create a “family-oriented destination that seeks to create long-term relationships and loyal guests, in which we serve as a model for sustainable and low-impact development positioning us as one of the leading projects in the Caribbean.

As well as creating a major boost to the country’s tourism industry, the project is expected to create approximately 1,800 direct and indirect jobs in the short and medium-term. An estimate of 4,000 jobs are predicted for the long term, which will bring a welcome boost to the nation’s economy and lives of people living in nearby communities.

The project has been likened to the popular tourist region of Punta Cana which is located on the east coast of the Dominican Republic. Punta Cana has become one of the country’s most popular tourist destinations over recent years, thanks to its safe award-winning beaches, family-friendly hotels and resorts, golf resorts, and variety of entertainment and leisure facilities that attract travellers from all over the world.
