Ocean Point Resort in Antigua revamps and goes all inclusive

The Ocean Point Resort on the Caribbean island of Antigua has new management and has undergone significant changes. The restaurant and bar has been completely revamped, the resort now offers an all-inclusive plan and all rooms are being updated with Italian bed linens and remodelled bathrooms.

Ocean Point Resort in Antigua’s northern Hodge’s Bay area is undergoing a phased revamp and has reopened under the direct management of a family that has owned the property for more than 40 years. The small luxury hotel now offers an all-inclusive option for guests with meals served at the resort’s remodelled Sottovento restaurant with a Michelin-starred chef.

The resort, previously run by British tour operator Sunsail, has been redesigned to add boutique touches and chic furnishings to the communal areas, including the lobby area that incorporates an old stone sugar mill into its architecture.

Ocean Point’s manager Niccolo Bertelli commented:

“The hotel has been deliberately built around the beautiful sugar mill that gives a touch of historicity to the place. The sugar mill is being used as a representative office for the Italian tour operator with whom we’ve signed a big contract for three years.”

The biggest changes have been made in the bar and restaurant area, which has been completely refurbished in a tasteful nautical theme and has a gourmet menu reflecting the hotel owner’s Sardinian roots. All inclusive guests can enjoy a high-end buffet at the beachside open-decked restaurant, while anyone can book for a la carte dinner.

As well as Italian-Caribbean fusion cooking with fresh locally-sourced ingredients, Sottovento offers a selection of fine Italian wines, expertly-made cocktails and events such as a weekly pizza night, and twice-weekly live music from local bands. The hotel has started a thoughtful lunch box system. Bertelli also said:

“We normally suggest that guests rent a car or take a taxi to explore the island. For this reason we provide lunch boxes so they don’t need to rush back to the hotel for lunch.” 

Guest rooms have also been updated with new mattresses, pillows and linens imported directly from Italy, and the hotel is in the process of refreshing and renovating the rooms and bathrooms. The resort’s rooms all have balconies overlooking the hotel pool area and two white sand beaches on Antigua’s peaceful Hodge’s Bay, not far from island capital St Johns and the island’s international airport.

Bertelli also explained:

“The rates are really reasonable, probably the cheapest on the island. For the winter season, rooms go from U$D209 (£161) for a bed and breakfast meal plan to U$D291 (£224) for the all inclusive plan. In the summer season it’s U$D159 (£123) for room only to U$D209 (£161) for all inclusive.”

The new management has introduced very competitive room rates that make the hotel one of the more affordable hotel options in Antigu and Barbuda.
