Antigua's Galley Bay remodels and opens new rum shack
Boutique hotel Galley Bay Resort and Spa on the Caribbean island of Antigua has opened a new rum shack as part of a recent remodel. The resort has also added a new beachside spa pavilion and fitness centre, and redesigned its cottage suites and communal areas with new furnishings.
The Galley Bay Resort and Spa on the Caribbean island of Antigua has added a number of new features as part of a recent remodel. In keeping with the spirit of the island, the boutique-style resort has a new rum shack serving rums from throughout the Caribbean, offering curated cocktails and special tastings of rare or very old rums.
The 93-room resort, part of the Elite Island Resorts portfolio, has also redesigned six of its garden cottage Gauguin Suites with private plunge pools and views of the lagoon. The redecoration is continued across the resort with chic new furniture and sun loungers, a new cafe, gift shop, jewellery shop and tour desk.
As part of the revamp, the resort has built a spa pavilion beside the beach so that guests can indulge in outdoor massages and wellness treatments, and there’s a new yoga and pilates deck on the sand, where the resort hosts weekly classes, plus a new gym. The entertainment programme at the all-inclusive resort will now include a weekly silent cinema at night on the beach.
Spread out across 40 acres of palm-studded gardens beside the long white Galley Bay beach in Antigua’s southern English Harbour area, the resort has beachside suites with balconies overlooking Galley Bay and carefully furnished in granite, dark acacia wood and rattan with high thread count linens and all mod cons.
The luxury resort has a relaxed and characterful Caribbean aesthetic with three high-quality open-air restaurants, three bar-lounges, and a spa. Its all-inclusive package includes the three standard meals, along with afternoon tea, evening hors d'oeuvres, wine and top-shelf beverages. In the evenings the resort hosts live entertainment, cocktail parties and Caribbean barbecues.
Guests can lounge on the palm-studded sun terrace or swim in the freshwater pool, take advantage of free watersports equipment and instruction, or the modern tennis facilities. The resort is close to all the attractions of Nelson’s Dockyard National Park including the UNESCO-listed heritage dockyard, Shirley Heights Lookout with its popular Sunday night jump-ups and a number of coastal hiking trails.
