Grenada hosts new PADI Development Course for Scuba Diving Instructors

The Caribbean is famous for its crystal clear turquoise sea and plethora of colourful marine life, which is why it is one of the world's most popular scuba diving destinations. The island of Grenada boasts stunning underwater sights and for the first time last month, a PADI Instructor Development Course was available at Sandals La Source Grenada resort.

Grenada hosts new PADI Development Course for Scuba Diving Instructors

Every year, thousands of divers head to the Caribbean to explore its beautiful underwater world. After the surreal experience, many then go on to become diving instructors so they can help others to enjoy the activity.

PADI Instructor Development Courses are often carried out in Eastern Caribbean in destinations like St Lucia, but Grenada recently hosted its first instructor course at a Sandals resort. Sandals LaSource Grenada Resort hosted the course which saw experienced diving instructors help trainee instructors develop their teaching skills so they can go on to lead or run their own scuba diving training centres.

Patrick Hammer, Platinum Course Director for PADI, declared during the course in Grenada last month:

“PADI and Sandals and Beaches Resorts have a had a long standing relationship; over the years we have certified thousands of divers, it is our pleasure to be here in Grenada, one of the Caribbean’s best dive destinations.”

Participants underwent two intense weeks of training in Grenada, and three Sandals Dive Masters also took the course. The Dive Masters were praised by the Regional Watersports Director for Sandals Resorts International, Windell John, for taking the time to study with PADI and having the passion to go on to become an instructor.

Sandals LaSource Grenada Resort & Spa is situated on 17 acres of tropical land on the Pink Gin Beach in Grenada. Its luxurious accommodation includes 225 luxurious guest rooms and suites that are positioned within three individual villages: Italian, Tahiti and Pink Gin.

The hotel’s luxury facilities include the outdoor open-air “Living Room,” with a bar, piano, and billiards; the Red Lane Spa with nine treatment rooms and a nail and hair salon; nine gourmet restaurants serving international culinary delights, including Sandals first top-tier steakhouse called Butch’s Chophouse; and an onsite dive centre.

Grenada is one of the Caribbean’s leading scuba diving destinations, home to more than 50 underwater sites including sunken wrecks and reef walls in crystal clear, azure ocean waters. Though divers of all levels can enjoy the sport in Grenada’s waters, the region is a Mecca for advanced divers who are seeking more challenging diving adventures. The waters are home to the Caribbean’s largest shipwreck, the 600-foot-long former Italian luxury liner, Bianca C, as well as the Hema I wreck.
