The El San Juan Hotel & Casino in Puerto Rico will temporarily close to guests for the next few months for an extensive refurbishment project. The hotel originally opened in 1957 in the country’s capital and will reopen to holidaymakers in early 2017.
Located in the Isla Verde district of San Juan, the hotel has 387 guest rooms and suites that will all be upgraded as part of the renovations. The hotel’s swimming pool areas, 15 bars, nine restaurants, fitness facilities, spa, and 35,000 square feet of meeting and event space will all be renovated and upgraded.
Andro Nodarse-Leon of Leon Mayer & Co., one of the hotel’s owners and the asset manager, commented:
“El San Juan is truly a one-of-a-kind property that we look forward to revitalising. The updates will pay homage to the historical status of this property as an iconic luxury lifestyle and entertainment resort, while incorporating a playfully elegant feeling to the modernised setting."
Originally designed by Morris Lapidus and Max Borges, the El San Juan Hotel & Casino is located on 15 acres of beachfront, just two miles from the Luis Munoz Marin International Airport. In the chic district of Isla Verde, holidaymakers can dine in exquisite restaurants, enjoy drinks and live music in bars and clubs, shop in boutiques, visit historical sites, or relax on the crescent-shaped beach. During their stay at the hotel, guests can enjoy beach cabanas, poolside concierges, and tropical gardens in the Caribbean sunshine.
San Juan is the capital of Puerto Rico and a vibrant city to unwind and soak up the charm and heritage on the Atlantic coast. Tourists can discover the history of the city through its 16th-century Spanish colonial architecture such as El Morro, El Catedral de San Juan Bautista and La Fortaleza. In Old San Juan, visitors can wander along narrow streets passing old theatres and museums, or head to one of the green parks for picnics, games or views of the harbour or mountains.
Puerto Rico is a Caribbean island in U.S territory located east of the Dominican Republic. Its emerald green rolling hills, tropical rainforests, majestic mountain ranges, beautiful waterfalls, and miles of white sand beaches attract tourists from all over the world and U.S residents do not require a visa to visit. The sapphire sea is perfect for water sports including snorkelling, scuba diving, sailing and kayaking, and nature lovers can hike through El Yunque National Forest to get a glimpse of the local wildlife.
