Oman Tourism to build three new hotels with 900 rooms in Muscat by 2018

Three new hotels are to be built in Oman by the Oman Tourism and Development Company (Omran), by the end of 2018. The government-owned institution has announced it will add 900 hotel rooms to the capital Muscat in 2017 and 2018.

The new hotels include a five-star W Hotel that will be part of the Royal Opera House’s expansion project in Muscat, and a five-star JW Marriott hotel and a four-star Crowne Plaza property in the Madinat Al Irfan Urban Centre in Muscat. The three new hotel are planned to be LEED certified, which stands for Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design.

Said bin Mohammed Al Qasmi, the chief project officer and head of convention and exhibition centre development for Omran, declared:

“The new business hub at Madinat Al Irfan Urban development is going to be extraordinary – a new urban fabric will be introduced into Muscat, offering a multitude of opportunities in Oman for residents and visitors alike.”

The new hotels are part of the government’s plans to create a mixed-use business and urban centre in Oman’s capital Muscat. They will also help increase the country’s supply of luxury accommodation and business facilities available to domestic and international visitors.

Several global hotel companies are showing an interest in development and expansion in Oman, and earlier this year Anantara Hotels, Resorts and Spas announced they will open two new hotels in 2016. The five-star Anantara Al Jabal Al Akhdar will be located on the Saiq Plateau on Green Mountain, elevated 2,000 metres above sea level, while the Al Baleed Resort – Salalah by Anantara will be situated between a freshwater lagoon and a beach, 10km from the centre of the city of Salalah in southern Oman.

The Oman Convention & Exhibition Centre is also due to open this year. The complex will have a five-star hotel, two four-star properties and one three-star hotel, with 1,000 rooms in total. There will also a business park, a large shopping mall and a nature reserve surrounding the development.

Omran is a government owned tourism investment, development and management company in Oman that manages projects in the tourism sector. It was first established to help with Oman’s emerging tourism industry, and it is now primarily used to support the nation’s large mixed-use developments.
