The Viceroy Hotel Group (VHG) has revealed details of its newest resort project in Central America. The hotel group will open the Viceroy Bocas del Toro Panama in 2019 with 186 guest rooms and 42 overwater villas with private plunge pools, furnished outdoor areas, and direct access to the ocean via a decking area.
Located on 547 acres of coastline in Panama, the resort will have three miles of private white, sandy beaches. The luxury resort and residence development will only be accessible by boat, sea plane or helicopter from Panama City.
Facilities at the property will include eight restaurants and lounge bars serving local and international cuisine with indoor and outdoor settings. For leisure and fitness there will be a modern gym, several swimming pools, a meditation room, and a spa with private rejuvenation pools in the rainforest. Guests can also watch films in the cinema lounge, or read in the library.
There will be plenty for guests to do at the resort such as zip-lining through the rainforest; snorkelling, diving, paddle boarding, fishing or sailing in the turquoise sea, or taking guided cycling tours or eco-hikes through the San Pond Sak wetlands, and catching glimpses of local birds and wildlife.
Viceroy Bocas del Toro Panama is an eco-resort and will only allow the use of electric cars and sustainable technology. From its architecture design and use of local materials, to its gardens with indigenous plants and produce that will be used in the hotel’s restaurants, every element of the resort has been created using green initiatives.
The development is a joint partnership between Viceroy Hotel Group, West Resort and Hospitality Investors Group. The architecture and interior design will be led by Zurcher Arquitectos and Wimberly Interiors.

Panama is a country in Central America that has two coastlines facing the Pacific Ocean and Caribbean Sea. The country has been listed among the world’s most luxurious destinations for 2016 due to its luxury hotels, excellent transport links, and diverse natural and cultural offerings.
Not far behind is Bocas del Toro archipelago. Named as the top travel destination by editors of Travel + Leisure Magazine, the archipelago is made up of nine islands in Panama, and is relatively unknown as a tourist destination.
