An avant-garde design for Coral Holiday Apartments to imitate Seychelles' coral
With a reputation for experimenting with the latest technology to create constructions that harmonise with the surrounding environment, Architects of Invention recently revealed a stunning and innovative design for Coral Holiday Apartments in the Seychelles. Using biomimicry, the project designers wish to make the building resemble the living marine life of the island: coral, sea creatures or even the sea itself.
An exact science yet a delicate art form, architecture reflects human nature: our needs, desires and imagination.
Today, preserving nature and respecting the environment are top priority, which is why new construction projects must all bear it in mind as they make their building plans.
The prestigious firm, Architects of Invention has taken it a step further by wishing not only to make one of its new projects eco-friendly but to actually imitate the surrounding nature.
Led by Nikoloz Japaridze and Anton Khmelnitskiy, Architects of Invention (AI) is an international partnership that practices contemporary architecture, urbanism, and cultural analysis around the globe.
Currently, they have taken on an ambitious and avant-garde project: building an upscale lifestyle community by the name of Coral Holiday Apartments in the stunning Seychelles, an archipelago in the Indian Ocean off the coast of East Africa.
The innovative construction will be built in the Seychelles’ main island and will feature lavish apartments, several restaurants, a clubhouse, a spa, a swimming pool, private marina and direct access to the beach. Nonetheless, the most remarkable feature of this promising project is the effort designers have made to reproduce the surrounding coral in the paradisiacal island.
Using biomimicry, they have based their design on the models, systems and growth of coral. According to one of the architects involved:
“The structures of the project derive from the content of units in continuous movement resembling a sea creature, coral or the moving of the sea.”
The ground floor of the luxurious building will include the main lobby, restaurant, bar, spa and retail space, whilst the lavish apartments will feature, in average, 40 square metres, with one or two bedrooms, a bathroom, a mixed kitchen and a living room and a spacious terrace. In addition, half of the apartments will boast marvellous ocean views given that the apartment complex will be:
“...arranged as single or several interlocked architectural spaces along the entire length of the parcel.”
Architects of Invention is also currently working on many other ground-breaking designs like the Marble Tower in Moscow and the Origami Highline in Chile. According to their website this firm’s ambition is:
"...to establish an international practice bringing innovative ideas and sustainable solutions across the world. Our method involves careful observation of situation, a keen understanding of environment and change through minimal intervention and recombination. We seek to establish positive rules creating enlivened, dynamic spaces that engage with societies.”
The Seychelles are today one of the most popular holiday destinations due to its many astounding natural qualities. This archipelago of 115 islands is filled with beautiful indigenous animal species, lush green tropical vegetation, powdery golden sand and sparkling blue waters. With AI’s one-of-a-kind construction, the beautiful Seychelles now become the centre of architectural innovation.
