Travellers take to the skies with luxury globe-trotting hotel experiences

Decades ago, travellers were just happy to be able to fly to destinations all over the world, but now they’re are demanding more on their travels; and airlines and hotels are keen to please.

Forbes Travel Guide has highlighted the partnerships that have emerged between hotel brands and airlines to provide luxurious experiences in the sky, from gourmet in-flight menus set by hotels, to trips in private jets.

Jetting off with Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts

Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts was the first hospitality brand to offer private jet experiences to guests in 2014. Operating on a 757 aircraft, the company has packed luxury onto the flight including on-board Wi-Fi, gourmet meals, and concierge service, as travellers jet off on a series of global adventures.

Later this year, the company will launch the Extraordinary Adventure and Cultural Escape trips. The 25-day Extraordinary Adventure journey will travel to eight cities, starting in Texas and ending in Lisbon, Portugal from 17th September to 11th October, 2016. The Cultural Escape trip will take place from 4th to 22nd November, 2016 and will start and end in London, with stops in Moscow, Dubai and more. In-between flights, passengers will be able to enjoy the luxury of many Four Seasons properties.

In 2017, the Global Getaway will take travellers to the South of France from 16th March to 8th April, where they’ll stay at the Grand-Hotel du Cap-Ferrat, A Four Seasons Hotel, before heading off to South Florida to the brand new not-yet-open Four Seasons Hotel at the Surf Club in Miami.

The Culinary Discoveries trip will take place from 27th May to 14th June, 2017 and will allow travellers to sample culinary delights in Thai markets, the famous Noma in Copenhagen, and fine cuisine in the five-star Four Seasons Hotel George V, Paris.

For a more unusual experience in the sky, the International Intrigue trip takes place from 3rd to 26th September, 2017 and includes hot-air balloon rides in the Serengeti. The trip includes a stay at the Four Seasons Safari Lodge Serengeti, and other activities including history lessons in Boston, and a stay at the Four Seasons Hotel Boston.

Hotel dining in the sky

The Langham, Hong Kong is a five-star hotel that boasts five restaurants overseen by the talented executive Spanish chef, Pedro Samper.
Hong Kong’s national air carrier Cathay Pacific called on The Langham to create a new menu for its Hong Kong to Madrid route. Aaron Claxton, the Head of Catering for Cathay Pacific, explained:

“This is the first time we are serving local Spanish dishes on-board, which I believe will provide our passengers a great opportunity to savour the real tastes of Spain on their voyage to the exciting city of Madrid”

This summer, Business Class passengers can enjoy delicious Spanish dishes including Basque-style cod fish with clams in a salsa verde sauce and Iberico pork in Tempranillo wine with black truffle potatoes.

Baccarat Heritage Experience

Baccarat Hotel and Residences has launched the Baccarat Heritage Experience that will take guests on a 12-day adventure to three continents, exploring the roots of Baccarat’s crystal-making history and expansion into the hospitality industry. The trip will starting at the Baccarat Hotel and Residences in Manhattan, New York City where guests will enjoy accommodation in the lavish Baccarat Suite with butler service; champagne and VIP white-glove service at the Madison Baccarat Boutique; a La Mer Baccarat Facial at the Spa de La Mer; and dinner at the hotel’s French restaurant, Chevalier.

Next up is France where guests will be chauffeured to Maison Baccarat in Paris, which has been frequented over the years by Jean Cocteau, Dalí and Luchino Visconti. There will be a tour of the Maison and Musee Baccarat, before guests head to Lorraine, France, where Baccarat’s famous crystal company began in 1764, for a tour of the factory where the famous crystal masterpieces are created.

Istanbul and Moscow are next on the agenda, and guests will have the chance to learn about the relationship between Baccarat and the Russian Royal family (since 1867), and visit crystal-filled palaces. The trip will conclude in Asia and will feature a visit to the B Bar in Tokyo where guests can enjoy cocktails or champagne in a Baccarat glass of choice, and a trip to the newly-opened Maison in Seoul in South Korea which houses Asia’s largest collection of Baccarat chandeliers.

Each of these journeys ooze opulence and luxury, and while they might not be within everyone’s budget, it shows that the sky really is the limit for providing unique experiences for travellers. This is only the beginning as more hotel brands and airlines compete to offer ultra-luxurious and one-of-a-kind itineraries for wealthy globe-trotters.
