Panama, Abu Dhabi, and Thailand in Forbes' List of Top Destinations for 2016
The American business magazine Forbes has launched a travel guide with the top 16 destinations for 2016. The list includes Los Cabos in Mexico, Thailand, Bermuda in the Caribbean, Panama in Central America, and Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates, among the top places around the world that travellers should visit this year.
Forbes, the leading business magazine in the United States, has revealed its list of top travel destinations for 2016.
Among the 16 destinations that made the list you can find places like Bermuda, Abu Dhabi, Thailand, Panama, and Los Cabos in Mexico.
Recently listed as an emerging destination for luxury travel, Panama is a lesser-known holiday destination, compared to its Central American neighbours, Costa Rica and Nicaragua. The country boasts the 100-year-old Panama Canal; Casco Viejo in Panama City, the UNESCO World Heritage-listed vibrant old town; and Gamboa Rainforest Resort, located just 30 minutes from the capital.
New hotels are under development including the Ritz-Carlton, Panama, which is located in Soho Panama, a luxury mall that opened last spring, and home to designer brands such as Chanel and Burberry.
This Mexican coastal resort is situated on the southern tip of the Baja California Peninsula, and was devastated in 2014 by Hurricane Odile. The region has since undergone developments to restore it and add new hotels and renovated resorts, such as Las Ventanas al Paraiso, One and Only Palmilla, Los Cabos Resort and Esperanza, An Auberge Resort.
Los Cabos is dived into two very different sections. The town of San Jose del Cabo that boasts authentic Mexican cobblestone streets, the central main square, mission church, and small and boutiques. Cabo San Lucas is a situated at the other end of the Corridor highway and is known for its nightlife and party scene, with funky bars, Luxury Avenue Mall, and the marina.
The region is also home to sweeping beaches and desert and turquoise ocean waters that are perfect for relaxation and fun activities.
This Caribbean island is famous for its pink sand beaches and is a hotspot for golf lovers, with America's Cup World Series taking place in June 2017. America's Cup Village is a manmade, 11-acre attraction built on the water, with parts of it scheduled for completion later this year.
If sports enthusiasts can't wait until 2017 to see some golf, Cambridge Beaches Resort and Spa will host the celebrity-filled Bermuda Golf Classic from 13th to 17th April, 2016, before the hotel closes for refurbishments.
If you're not a sports fan, there's plenty of other sites to enjoy such as the Bermuda Aquarium, Zoo and Museum, the Bermuda Maritime Museum, the Royal Naval Dockyard, and the historic town of St George which is also a listed UNESCO World Heritage Site.
South East Asia continues to be a hotspot for sun-seeking travellers, and Thailand can often be overlooked by tropical countries such as Indonesia. This year, Thailand's beautiful southern coastal province Phuket will host the Songkran Festival from 13th to 15th April, and lesser-known Chiang Mai is attracting holidaymakers with its 700-year-old temples and contemporary hotels. Thailand's capital is developing new hotels such as the Rosewood Bangkok, and refurbishing existing accommodation including the luxurious Mandarin Oriental, Bangkok.
Abu Dhabi has emerged as one of the most popular destinations in the Middle East over recent years, thanks to the development of new luxury hotels. The capital of the United Emirates is currently constructing Zayed National Museum and outposts of the famous Guggenheim and Louvre on Saadiyat Island, and this year, the city will see the opening of Four Seasons Hotel Abu Dhabi and Abu Dhabi Edition.
