The development of the Mina Sultan Qaboos Waterfront Project in Oman has attracted the attention of several high profile hotel brands who are keen to manage one of the seven planned hotels.

The mixed-use waterfront tourist destination in Oman is costing approximately OR500 million ($1.29 billion) and will be developed over four stages, with phase one starting this summer.

The global hotel brands that have expressed an interest in managing the new hotels include the Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group, Hyatt, Viceroy Hotels and Resorts, Hilton Hotels and Resorts, Taj Hotels Resorts and Palaces, Banyan Tree Luxury Hotels and Resorts, Chedi, Four Seasons, and Emaar group's The Address.

"Following the recent announcement of the project, we've been very heartened by the strong expressions of interest shown by prominent local investors."

Stated Salah Al Ghazali, the Chief Investment Officer at Omran. Mr Al Ghazali continued:

"By taking a position in the waterfront development, investors clearly understand the attractive and enduring returns on offer with this state backed project. Our priority is to offer opportunities to local investors, followed by the regional and international investment community."

The first phase of the project will include the development of several entertainment and lifestyle attractions and services including a tourism visitor centre, a children's entertainment village, an SME Incubator-Arts, crafts and organic farmers market, an aquarium, and a marine heritage visitor centre with the tall ship Shabab Oman.

During this period, there will also be the construction of a four-star family hotel, hotel residential apartments, a five-star marina hotel with a yacht club and marina, a fish souq, a Muttrah fisherman's wharf, and starter apartments. All four phases of the waterfront project are scheduled to be completed by the end of 2020.

Oman is a country in the Middle East that borders the United Arab Emirates, and has become a popular tourist destination over recent years.

The capital Muscat is a popular holiday spot, and tourists can walk for miles along the city's beautiful beaches and coastline, or explore the historic sites and attractions such as the Al Jalali Fort and Al Mirani forts, Qasr Al Alam Royal Palace, Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque, Qurum National Park and the Bait az-Zubair Museum.
