The first event of its kind to ever be organised and which was sponsored by Macao's tourism authorities, The Holiday Place was recently invited to attend the Daily Telegraph Travel Show where a special champagne breakfast reception at the Taste of Asia section introduced two of our team members to the most recent developments in Macao's tourism industry, not least of all its official new name announcement and the capitalising of its strong culinary appeal. Read on to find out more about how Macao is relaunching itself to become one of the hottest emerging destinations of 2016, and why you shouldn't hesitate to make it your next exotic travel destination.

The Holiday Place were delighted to be invited by the Macao Government Tourist Office for an exclusive champagne breakfast reception at the inaugural Daily Telegraph Travel Show last Friday, 8th January.

The event was held in the presence of Charles Starmer-Smith, Executive Head of Travel at The Telegraph Media Group and Jonathan Phang, TV chef, writer and presenter.

The venue was ExCeL London in the Taste of Asia section and it was all sponsored by Macao Tourism.

Attendants from The Holiday Place’s team included Far East Product Manager, Michael Priest and Marketing Manager, Anna Vine, who were both invited to the very first event of this kind, as an introduction to the brand new Telegraph Travel Show, to reflect on the fantastic year that Macao (also commonly spelled as Macau previ) had in 2015, and to announce what’s new for 2016.

Sue Whitehead, General Manager at Macao Tourism made the following statement during the event:

Sue Whitehead, General Manager at Macao Tourism

"2015 was a great year for Macao. One major development was the introduction of Studio City, Asia’s first leisure resort to integrate film and television production facilities. This luxury hotel is the epitome of red carpet hotel service, which has seen the likes of Leonardo DiCaprio, Martin Scorsese and Robert De Niro pay a visit. Plus the undisputed Queen of Pop, Madonna, will be performing this February at Studio City, as part of her ‘Rebel Heart Tour."

Another major development is Macao’s increasing recognition for its fantastic cuisine, and with a staggering number of Michelin star restaurants (16 to be precise) it’s not hard to see why.

Charles Starmer-Smith, Executive Head of Travel at The Telegraph Media Group

Charles Starmer-Smith stated that the fusion of Mediterranean and Asian cuisine is something that Macao does very well, with their Portuguese and Chinese roots delivering a melting pot of flavours.

Jonathan Phang, TV chef, writer and presenter

To capitalise on this strong culinary culture the Macao Tourist Board have also just launched their "Flavours of Macao" app, which showcases a unique guide from five renowned TV chefs sharing their favourite recipes reflecting on the cuisines of Macao and what they love about this captivating corner of the world. The app includes Jonathan Phang’s Bolinhos de Bacalhau and Ken Hom’s Prawns with honey-glazed walnuts. If you want a glimpse into Macao’s tantalising gastronomy you can download the app for free today.
