Qatar Airways add Nagpur as its 13th destination in India
Qatar Airways recently marked a key milestone in its international growth strategy by adding its 13th destination in India with the start of the Doha to Nagpur route on December 1st. The addition of the service makes Qatar Airways the airline with the most extensive network in India.
As of December 1st Qatar Airways is now operates daily direct flights to Nagpur, India from Doha. The flights are served by the airline's A320 aircraft, which has a capacity for 144 seats including 12 Business Class seats.
The journey time is estimated at just over four hours long. With the launch of the new service, Qatar Airways' weekly passenger flights in India have increased from 95 to 102.
At the time of announcement, the chief executive of Qatar Airways Akbar Al Baker stated:
"... the additional service is evidence of the growing demand in the Indian market and further strengthens our commitment and focus in the region."
The service signals a key milestone for Qatar Airways with Nagpur the airline's 13th Indian destination making it the only airline to serve as many destinations in India. Other destinations in India that are served by Qatar Airways include Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Chennai, New Delhi, Hyderabad, Kolkata and Mumbai.
Mr Al Baker went on to state:
"Qatar Airways is proud of the fact that we serve more destinations in India than any other country in our network. Leisure and business travellers from Nagpur can now experience enhanced connectivity to more than 150 international destinations through seamless connections via Doha's Hamad International Airport".
The move is a significant one for India as well, as it looks to continue its development of Nagpur- the third largest city in Maharashtra. The Government of India has selected Nagpur for its flagship Smart Cities project - a project designed to meet the demands of India's growing urban population. Each selected city will benefit from heavy investments aimed at improving infrastructure, communications and in the case of Nagpur, the development of a new airport and a multi-modal international cargo hub are said to be in the pipeline.
Qatar Airways serves a range of exiting holiday destinations across Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Asia Pacific, North America and South America including London, Barcelona, Rome, Paris, New York, Tanzania and as of next year the list will expanded to include Los Angeles Boston, Atlanta, Sydney, Adelaide and Birmingham UK.
