Free kids' cooking lessons at Thailand's Ritz-Carlton Phulay Bay

Thailand's Phulay Bay Ritz-Carlton resort has introduced a new program that shows youngsters how to cook Thai food like a real chef. Families staying at the hotel can enrol their kids for free and let them spend time with resort chefs selecting ingredients and preparing dishes, which will be served up to their parents for lunch.

The resort in the popular beachside destination of Krabi is offering daily Petit Chef sessions for children aged 5-11. It's intended to be a fun and educational activity to spark their culinary imaginations and let them experience the flavours of traditional Thai cooking.

The program starts with a visit to the resort's organic garden to select fresh ingredients. It includes a brief tutorial on the benefits of home-grown produce, and an interactive lesson on how to identify several varieties of fruit and vegetables, as well as how to harvest them at the peak of flavour and ripeness.

After their visit to the garden, the children are taken for a behind-the-scenes tour of the kitchens followed by an interactive course in making dishes from scratch using freshly harvested organic produce. The little chefs learn how to make simple Thai dishes, including Long Yard Bean Salad, Local Spinach Ravioli, Lemongrass Macaroon and Pandan Butter Cake, which they serve and present to their parents at lunchtime.

The activity is offered complimentary to young guests and runs daily from 11am to 1pm when lunch is served. Places on the program need to be booked in advance.

Phulay Bay Ritz-Carlton's General Manager Carlos Tarrero, explained:

"The Petit Chef program is the perfect way to immerse younger guests in the magic and traditions of Thailand through cuisine. The program builds upon Phulay Bay's commitment to sourcing fresh, locally-grown ingredients, and providing rare, exotic and authentic experiences for guests to treasure for a lifetime. The interactive program encourages kids to get excited about cooking, while learning about the importance of organic, sustainable cuisine in a way that is wholly unique to Krabi."

The activity is offered complimentary to young guests and runs daily from 11am to 1pm, when lunch is served. Places on the program need to be booked in advance.

Phulay Bay is the first Ritz-Carlton Reserve property and features 54 one-bedroom villas with private plunge pools and ocean views. The luxury resort is located on Thailand's western coast facing the Andaman Sea, between a white sand beach and high limestone cliffs. As well as a large infinity pool, the resort offers plenty of on and off-site activities for guests.
