Oman and Indonesia's national airlines enter into codeshare agreement

Officials at national carriers Oman Air and Garuda Indonesia have entered into a codeshare agreement. The partnership offers holidaymakers greater flexibility and reduces the hassle of multiple airlines when booking twin-city holidays in Oman and Indonesia. The deal also provides both markets with the opportunity to increase the number of international arrivals to their shores.

Oman Air and Garuda Indonesia have now signed a codeshare agreement. Under the terms of the agreement Oman Air customers are now able to book Garuda Indonesia flights between Jakarta and Bali Kuala Lumpur and Bangkok.

Similarly, Garuda Indonesia customers can now book Oman Air operated flights between Muscat and Kuala Lumpur, Bangkok, Jakarta or Salalah.

Travellers planning multi-centre holidays combining Oman and Indonesia are likely to be pleased at the partnership as it allows then to conveniently book their flights without multiple airlines.

Officials from both companies have spoken out in support of the decision with Oman Air's chief operating officer, Abdulrahaman Al-Busaidy stating:

"Garuda Indonesia shares Oman Air's commitment to offering the highest quality of service and hospitality, aboard outstanding aircraft... Garuda Indonesia's customers will now find that flying to Oman and exploring the Sultanate's awe-inspiring beauty could not be easier."

Garuda Indonesia's commercial director, Handayani, explained:

"This partnership will extend our network worldwide – especially to Oman and represents our commitment to ‘bring the world to Indonesia' by providing a seamless yet convenient connections between Oman and Indonesia."

Indonesia is currently working towards a target of attracting 10 million international holidaymakers in 2015.

In 2014, Indonesia welcomed 9.44 million international holidaymakers, representing a 7.19 percent growth on this measure when compared to 2013.

A key factor that has helped to boost Indonesia's tourism prospect has been increased government investment in the sector with President Joko Widodo setting the 2015 tourism budget at 1.3 trillion rupiah ($98.4 million USD). According to recent reports, President Widodo will quadruple this budget in 2016 to 4 trillion rupiah ($300 million USD).

The Omani government has also ramped up investment in tourism, however, while Indonesia has focused the majority of its tourism budget on marketing and promotion, Oman is currently investing heavily in infrastructure. As part of its long-term tourism strategy, the Sultanate will invest as much as $35 billion USD between 2015 and 2040.

Key projects in the pipeline for Oman include the launch eight new tourism ventures in the near future including an environment tourist camp, an adventure tourism centre, an entertainment centre and chalets, a tourism recreation centre and four three star hotels.

Both Indonesia and Oman are on track to achieve strong growth in the future and the most recent partnership between the national carriers of both countries will likely play a role in propelling both nations towards their respective goals.
