Minor Hotel Group now a major player in Africa
The Minor Hotel Group's (MHG) Elewana Collection has recently acquired Cheli and Peacock Group of Companies. Following the acquisition, Cheli and Peacock's six luxury camp hotels in Kenya are now part of MHG's Africa portfolio. Elewana Collection now offers holidaymakers a choice of 14 different properties across some of Africa's most breathtaking destinations.
The Minor Hotel Group (MHG) has further cemented its position as one of the leading hotel firms in Africa with the addition of six camp hotels in Kenya.
The latest additions to the Group's portfolio comes following the acquisition of the Cheli and Peacock Group of Companies by Minor's Elewana Collection. The six Cheli and Peacock properties that will now fall under the Elewana Collection umbrella are Elsa's Kopje, Elephant Pepper Camp, Joy's Camp, Tortilis Camp, Kitich Camp and Lewa Safari Camp. The Elewana Collection has now grown to a total of 14 properties across Northern Tanzania, Kenya and Zanzibar.
At the time of the announcement, Minor Hotel Group CEO, Dillip Raja Karier was keen to underscore his firm's position as the leading provider of luxury camp holidays in Kenya with each of the six Cehli and Peacock properties located in the best parks and conservancies in Kenya.
Notably, the Tortilis Camp offers breathtaking views of Kilimanjaro while Elsa's Kopje, named after Elsa the lioness of the book and film "Born Free", features panoramic views of the Meru National Park. Mr Karier explained:
"The addition of the six Cheli and Peacock camps to the Elewana Collection represents a really exciting development in Kenya for Minor Hotel Group and our partners.
"The expanded Elewana Collection now offers a portfolio of 14 camps, lodges and boutique beach hotels in Kenya, Tanzania and the island of Zanzibar, providing unparalleled African wildlife-viewing and beach holiday opportunities with an emphasis on stylish and luxurious comfort."
Cheli and Peacock, under the management of founders Stefano and Liz Cheli, will continue to operate independently of Elewana Collection. Stefano Cheil stated:
"This merger will allow us to take our combined experience and really focus on the intricacies that go towards guaranteeing guests an outstanding safari experience in a wider region of East Africa."
With the recently expanded Elewana Collection, MHG now operates 133 hotels across the world, 25 of which are located in Africa under the Antara, AVANI and Elewana Collection brands. A further two Antara branded hotels are expected to be launched in Tunisia and Morocco in 2017.
