Moon Palace Jamaica Grande says delayed grand opening will take place soon
The Moon Palace Jamaica Grande Hotel has announced that it will spend $150 million to upgrade the former Sunset Jamaica Grande and transform it into a five-star hotel. Originally scheduled to open in April, the resort in Ocho Rios in Jamaica will now open at a later date, marking the first Moon Palace-branded property outside of Mexico.
The Moon Palace Jamaica Grande Hotel has announced that it is planning to spend $150 million to upgrade the former Sunset Jamaica Grande into a five-star resort.
The hotel in Jamaica will miss its scheduled completion date on 11th April, 2015 following industrial unrest at the site, but the General Manager, Clifton Reader, told a press conference that the grand opening will take place soon.
Palace Resorts bought the former Sunset Jamaica Grande in July, 2014 and the hotel has since undergone a $50 million refurbishment programme to meet the hotel company’s standards.
The luxury beachfront hotel is the company’s first ever property located outside of Mexico and it will be the second Moon Palace-branded resort for the hotel group who currently operates the Moon Palace Golf & Spa Resort in Cancun, Mexico.
Located on the north coast of Jamaica, 90 minutes from Montego Bay airport, the upscale resort sits on 17 acres of tropical beachfront, and boasts the longest stretch of private beach in Ocho Rios.
The Moon Palace Jamaica Grande has over 700 guest rooms and suites with views of the sparkling Caribbean Sea, plus amenities such as original CHI Ceramic Hairstyling Irons and CHI Pro Hair-Dryers, plus CHI wetline bath products including Infra Shampoo, Infra Treatment conditioner, body lotion, and bubble bath.
Facilities include five gourmet restaurants, four swimming pools, a flow-rider attraction, a Wired Teen Lounge, a 35,000 square-foot spa with a wide range of pampering treatments and services, and a modern fitness centre.
Despite not opening its doors to the public yet, Moon Palace has already launched the Palace Foundation in Jamaica, a non-profit organisation that was created in 2004 to address the social issues of local communities and improve lives.
The Foundation in Jamaica started with $250,000, and all of the furniture from the former Sunset Jamaica Grande was sold and the proceeds put in the foundation.
Jamaica is an island nation situated in the Caribbean Sea and one of the world’s leading tourist destinations with sugar-white sandy beaches fringed with warm azure ocean waters, soaring mountains, and verdant rolling emerald hills and dense forests. Popular natural attractions include Dunn’s River Falls in Ocho Rios, the five-mile-long Doctor’s Cave Beach in Montego Bay, and the majestic Blue Mountains.
