Cayman Islands hailed as the best overall diving destination in the Caribbean

Diving magazine SCUBA DIVIING had announced the winners of its 2015 Reader's Choice Awards. The awards further underscores the fact the Cayman Islands is the premier destination for diving enthusiasts.

Cayman Islands hailed as the best overall diving destination in the Caribbean

SCUBA DIVING magazine has released the 2015 edition of its Reader's Choice Awards and the Cayman Islands has accumulated a host of awards including the coveted "Best Overall Diving" destination in the Caribbean/Atlantic region.

Other categories in which the Cayman Islands bested its regional peers included the "Best Marine Environment" and "Best Wall Diving" categories and added to these, the Cayman Islands took the second spot for the "Best Visibility", "Best Macro Diving" and "Best Overall Destination" categories.

Minister of Tourism Moses Kirkconnell noted that one of the factors that makes the Cayman Islands the best destination for diving holidays is the country's hospitality and excellent facilities with Grand Cayman alone offering visitors a choice of over 200 restaurants as well as a number of accommodation options including luxury hotels and resorts. Mr. Kirkconnell, explained:

"When divers visit the Cayman Islands, they become a part of the community and have the opportunity to immerse themselves in its rich culture, history and tradition. As a prime dive destination, we are so pleased to have a thriving dive community who care for our underwater splendour and act as ambassadors for the Cayman Islands.

"Earning awards such as these are a reflection of the valued partnerships between the dive operators, tourism and government who all must continue to work together to ensure that our dive sites thrive and draw visitors from around the globe in the future."

Diving has long been a key pillar in the Cayman Islands' tourism portfolio and has helped to make the Islands one of the most visited holiday destinations in the Caribbean over years with 2014 no exception. A compilation of arrival statistics from countries across the Caribbean indicates that 2014 was one of the best years for the region.

While destinations like the Dominican Republic, Cuba, Jamaica, Puerto Rica and Aruba had the highest total number of arrivals in 2014, the Cayman Islands outperformed most of its peers on year-on-year growth which was at 10.8 per cent compared to an average year on year growth of five per across the region.
