Industry insiders list Oman among the must see destinations for 2015

Renowned travel industry intelligence firm Skift has recently named Oman as one of its top holiday destinations for 2015.

According to Skift, the fusion of Arabian hospitality, traditional Bedouin charm and modern infrastructure makes this a stand out travel destination in the Middle East.

Of the accolade, Maitha Al Mahrouqi the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Tourism stated:

"It is a great honor for Oman to be recognized as 2015's top destination offering diverse travel experiences by Skift.

"This acknowledgment will boost Oman's tourism in 2015 and keep us moving forward in upgrading our tourism infrastructure with an aim to make the industry a vital contributor to the country's economy...

"Such recognition further reinforces the diversity [that] underpins Oman's tourism product."

Skift is just one of many travel industry insiders that has taken notice of one of the Middle East's best kept secrets. The New York Times featured Oman in its list of the top 52 places to visit in 2015 while the UK's Telegraph noted Khasab as one of the 10 most beautiful ports in the world and Nizwa, Oman was recognized among Rough Guides' list of the top ten cities in the world.

With some of the top hoteliers operating in Oman, it is also seen as a luxury destination of choice for many holidaymakers. Ritz-Carlton, Six Senses and Shangri La are among some of the top luxury resorts in Oman.

Recent reports suggest that Oman's tourism industry will experience an unprecedented growth over the course of the next 15 years thanks in large part to heavy investment aimed at improving infrastructure and expanding its ports, including the development of a new terminal at the Muscat international Airport.

Another factor that is expected to boost tourism is Oman's growing popularity as a cruise destination. Oman, conveniently located on the southern coast of the Arabian Peninsula, is one of the most important ports for cruise ships sailing through the Middle East. The Sultanate has said that it expects to welcome 1.6 million cruise travellers by 2020 and 2.1 million by 2030.
