Nature-loving adventure-seekers will now be able to swim with sharks at the Florida Aquarium, without needing to learn how dive first.

The aquarium has launched new twice-daily Shark Swim experiences where participants don’t have to get their scuba diving certification to get close to the beautiful creatures.

The shark diving experiences are available to anyone over the age of nine and they will be able to swim alongside huge sand tiger sharks, a sea turtle, eels, stingrays, and over 1,500 tropical fish on an artificial reef.

The experience will involve a small scuba tank, regulator and flotation device which will keep four swimmers at a time just below the surface. They will be guided with a long pole near the well-fed and disinterested seven-foot-long sharks.

"It does make you want to become scuba certified because it's so incredible to see," explained Katie Edmiston, the Marketing Manager of the aquarium.

"And that's the goal, to make people want to dive more, to become more aware of what's down there and become advocates of the ocean.

The divers will receive a mandatory lesson on how to safely enjoy scuba diving with sharks, and once they are in the tank, they will be visible to visitors at the aquarium.

The shark diving experience costs $100 per person, and it includes aquarium admission for the diver.

Florida is one of the world’s most popular scuba diving destinations and it is home to the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary which covers an area of 2,900 square nautical miles. While scuba diving in Florida, divers can catch sighting of turtles, whales, dolphins, rays, eels, tropical fish, colourful corals and much more.

Key Largo is another fantastic spot for scuba diving and divers can explore several diving sites, shipwrecks, coral gardens, and reefs that lie within the John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park, Dagny Johnson Key Largo Hammock Botanical State Park, and Everglades National Park.
