British Airways to launch new Tobago flight in 2015

British Airways will be adding another flight to Tobago to its 2015 schedule due to an increase in demand. The Caribbean island has become more popular than ever among UK holidaymakers and the country has recently launched a new marketing campaign that focuses on responsible tourism and which is encouraging more global travellers to visit the nation.

British Airways to launch new Tobago flight in 2015

The UK’s national airline, British Airways has announced that it will add another service to its Tobago route next year. The airline says that the new flight has been added due to increased demand to the Caribbean island.

The new flight to Tobago will commence in Spring 2015 and will be shared with Antigua.

“This is being driven by demand on the route and we felt that we could allow visitors to the island the opportunity to stay seven days, eleven days or fourteen days,” explained Colm Lacy, the Head of Commercial for British Airways at Gatwick.

Lacy added that as Tobago continues to grow as a tourist destination for UK travellers, the airline would consider looking into non-stop direct flights to the country.

Tracy Davidson-Celestine, the Secretary for tourism and transportation in the Tobago House of Assembly, explained that Tobago will now have the necessary airlift out of the UK thanks to the increased BA flights and some other arrangements that are being put in place. She said;

"This decision by BA to add the flight to Tobago is testimony to the confidence they have in the destination and is a credible sign that we are making progress with our tourism product."

The Secretary added that a new marketing campaign has also been launched that focuses on the country’s commitment to responsible tourism.

Tobago is one half of the twin-island nation of Trinidad and Tobago in the Caribbean. The country boasts beautiful sandy beaches, warm turquoise ocean waters, majestic mountains, and verdant forests and rolling hills.

Holidaymakers can enjoy tours of the Caroni Bird Sanctuary, the Emperor Valley Zoo and Botanical Gardens, and Fort George.

The nation has an selection of thriving nature parks, rainforests, and cascading waterfalls to explore, and water lovers can scuba dive down to Buccoo Reef in Tobago and discover vibrant coral gardens within shallow crystal-clear ocean waters. Annual festivals include Divali, the Hindu festival of lights and the Tobago Heritage festival, and active travellers can take part in activities such as golf, snorkelling, scuba diving, sailing and horse riding.
