Vietnam's Sofitel Legend Metropole Hanoi named as one of the world's best hotels
Vietnam's Sofitel Legend Metropole hotel is viewed by many as one of the top Hanoi hotels and in recent times it has been gaining international acclaim. Trusted travel guide publication Fodor's recently named the Sofitel Legend Metropole among its list of the top hotels in the world.
Renowned travel publication Fodor’s has included the Sofitel Legend Metropole Hanoi as not just one of Vietnam’s top hotels but one of the best in the world. The prestigious list was complied following a review of more than 5000 hotels and resorts from around the globe, all of which were rated by as many as 500 Fodor’s contributors. The reviews assessed the service, setting, style and amenities in each hotel.
In its review of the Legend Metropole Hanoi, Fodor’s stated,
"A classic Asian colonial-era hotel in the same league as the Peninsula in Hong Kong and Singapore's Raffles Hotel, the Metropole is Hanoi's most storied accommodation, offering world-class service in a historic building nestled in the French Quarter across from the Hanoi Opera House. The hotel's Metropole Wing preserves the original French colonial aesthetic, which is contrasted by the Opera Wing's neoclassical decor.
Other hotels to make Fodor’s list include the Mandarin Oriental in Thailand, the Savoy in the UK and the Taj Mahal Palace in India.
This is not the only accolade for the Sofitel Legend Metropole in recent times as it was also named as one of the top 10 luxury hotels in Vietnam at the 2013 Vietnam Tourism Awards. Additionally, the US travel magazine Conde Nast named the Sofitel Legend Metropole among the world’s top hotels for 2013.
While it's clearly an exciting time for the Sofitel Legend Metropole hotel, the tourism industry in this South East Asian country is experiencing somewhat of a slump. Recent reports indicate that September is the fourth consecutive month to see negative growth in the number of travellers booking their holidays in Vietnam. Much of the downturn has been driven by a decrease in visitors from China on the back of heightened diplomatic tensions over the Paracel Islands.
With a slowdown in visitors from China - currently Vietnam’s largest source market, the country will undoubtedly be hoping to attract more travellers from other key source markets in Europe and the US. Hotels like the Sofitel Legend Metropole making waves in key international travel publications can only help to entice more travellers to book Vietnam holidays.
