A brand new luxury leisure resort on the L'Anse Fourmi Estate in Tobago has been granted planning permission.

The Trinidad and Tobago authorities gave the go-ahead for the new resort which will be built on the 300-acre estate, close to one of the world's oldest protected national parks.

Boasting more than three miles of coastline with stunning white sand beaches and turquoise ocean waters, the Caribbean resort will be surrounded by tropical landscapes such as a protected rainforest and an abandoned cocoa plantation.

Located on the north cost of Tobago in a relatively undiscovered area, the luxury beachfront resort will have accommodation for 360 guests, and a variety of facilities such as gourmet restaurants, bars, a lavish spa, tennis courts, a modern fitness centre, a swimming pool, a conference centre, and a small marina that will have a scuba diving centre and fishing boats.

The Tobago House of Assembly has recently completed the final stage of a road network that connects the beaches fronting the estate which, until now, were inaccessible.

The twin-island nation of Trinidad and Tobago is a popular holiday destination in the Caribbean thanks to its pristine sandy beaches, warm turquoise ocean waters, majestic mountains, cascading waterfalls, and verdant forests and rolling hills.

Tobago is the smaller of the two islands of the country and it is just 26 miles long and six miles wide.

Water lovers can enjoy Tobago's excellent scuba diving conditions and dive sites such as Buccoo Reef where they can discover vibrant coral gardens within shallow crystal-clear ocean waters.

Tourists visiting the nation can enjoy tours of Caroni Bird Sanctuary, the Emperor Valley Zoo and Botanical Gardens, and the historical Fort George.

Annual festivals include Divali, the Hindu festival of lights and the Tobago Heritage festival, and active travellers can take part in activities such as golf, snorkelling, scuba diving, sailing and horse riding.
