St Kitts to receive more than one million cruise arrivals in 2014/2015 season
St Kitts and Nevis is a popular tourist destination in the Caribbean and the island of St Kitts is set to receive more than one million cruise passengers this forthcoming winter season for the first time in its history. The island will receive six calls from the Royal Caribbean International's Quantum of the Seas, and the Disney Cruise Line is set to return for the first time since 2009.
As the UK settles into its cooler autumnal season, the Caribbean is getting ready for its forthcoming high season and St Kitts and Nevis is set to receive an increase in visitors.
The twin-island nation is a popular tourist destination and the island of St Kitts is expecting more than one million cruise arrivals in 2014/2015 winter season.
Senator Ricky Skerritt, the Minister of Tourism and International Transport, explained:
"The fact that we will be welcoming this record number of cruise passengers to St. Kitts is a testament to the high quality of our tourism infrastructure and to the partnerships that our destination has forged with industry stakeholders.
"Our performance must be examined against the backdrop of the development of a wealth of onshore activities based on our nature, rich history, and friendly people who help provide an authentic Caribbean experience for all of our visitors."
During the 2014/2015 high season, the island will receive six calls from Royal Caribbean International's Quantum of the Seas; the Disney Cruise Line will return to St Kitts for the first time since 2009 with the Disney Magic which is scheduled to make four port calls; Oceania Cruises' Insignia will stop at the island; and Norwegian Cruise Line's Norwegian Gem and Norwegian Pearl will together make a total of seventeen calls.
Federico Gonzalez-Denton, the Director of Government Relations for Royal Caribbean International and Celebrity Cruises added:
"Clearly this memorable milestone would not have occurred without the friendly smiles and hard work of the Kittitians themselves, the unique and breathtaking beauty of the island, and the positive cruise initiatives and policies established by the Government. Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. feels extremely proud of our contribution to this historic achievement."
St Kitts is one half of the twin-island Caribbean nation of St Kitts and Nevis, and the two picturesque islands are separated by a two-mile channel. Both destinations are home to an array of breathtaking natural landscapes, such as white sand beaches fringed with crystal clear turquoise ocean waters, verdant green forests, volcanic peaks, and winding rivers. During cruise holidays, tourists can enjoy an abundance of wildlife including birds, turtles and tropical monkeys.
