The British Virgin Islands (BVI), in the north-eastern Caribbean, is launching its first ever month-long food festival this November, showcasing the islands' cuisine with a range of events.
As part of the BVI Food Fete, the islands will host the Anegada Lobster Festival, Restaurant Week and Taste of the BVI offering everything from special restaurant menus and celebrity chef cook-offs to Caribbean street barbecues and free food tastings.
Visitors can expect to indulge in gastronomic specialities across the archipelago's three largest islands of Tortola, Anegada and Virgin Gorda. Classic BVI fare includes BBQ ribs and chicken, mahi mahi, roti, peas soup and the renowned Anegada lobster, reputed to be the best in the Caribbean.
A highlight of the BVI Food Fete, the Anegada Lobster Festival is held on the island's shores on the last weekend of November, with an array of lobster dishes on offer as well as live music and entertainment. Lobster dishes will be prepared by award-winning local and international chefs, and cooked in an array of ways - grilled, jerked, curried, broiled, stewed and even served ceviche-style.
Also part of the food fete, BVI Restaurant Week, running from 14th-23rd November, gives diners the chance to try special menus at discounted rates, enjoy VIP dinners and watch live cooking demonstrations. Participating restaurants across the islands will create special menus offering breakfast for $9 or less, lunch for no more than $15, and dinner for $45 or less, each including a complimentary drink.
During the week, two Taste of the BVI events will also take place, one on Tortola on 14th November and the other on Virgin Gorda on 15th November. The events will feature free samples of delicious food and drink served in a market-style setting, as well as celebrity chef cook-offs and a celebrity chef dinner. Guest chef Roshni Gurnani, who was praised for her fusion cooking by Gordon Ramsey when she appeared on his TV show Hell's Kitchen, will be taking part in the festival.
Other BVI Food Fete highlights include a Caribbean Street Barbecue on Scrub Island on 2 November, Tasting Tuesdays at Peter Island Resort throughout the month, Caribbean Cellars Block Party on 8th November, and On the Rocks Bar Crawl on Virgin Gorda island on 15th November.
