New $2 billion mega resort to be built in Antigua

The government of Antigua and Barbuda has signed a memorandum of agreement with Yida International Investment Group to build a $2 billion mega resort.

The 1,600-acre resort will be located in Antigua and will be 50 per cent bigger than the $3.5 billion Baha Mar Resort that is currently under construction in the Bahamas.

The luxury beachfront resort will be built on 900 acres of land in the north of Antigua and will have five luxury hotels, private residences, a school, a hospital, golf courses, a horse racing track, and the Caribbean's largest casino.

The Singulari project will bring 1,000 jobs to Antigua and the new Caribbean resort will be located on 36 acres of beachfront land, five acres of which will be developed into a public national park facility that can be used by residents and tourists.

The memorandum of agreement was signed between Gaston Browne, Antigua's prime minister, and Yida representatives on 13th June, 2014, just one day after taking office following a general election.

Browne also announced a recent agreement with Al Caribi Development Ltd. that will construct a "five-star branded luxury resort" at Morris Bay, near the Curtain Bluff hotel.

The nation of Antigua and Barbuda lies between the Caribbean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean and is famous for its wide selection of beautiful pristine white sand beaches.

Barbuda is the smaller of the two islands, located north of Antigua and is a popular spot for bird watching at the Frigate Bird Sanctuary in the Codrington Lagoon. The island is less built-up and has a selection of all inclusive beachfront hotels and resorts.

Antigua is the largest of the twin-island nation and it is a hotspot for destination for weddings, honeymoons and family holidays thanks to its natural scenery which is typical of the Caribbean: white sand palm-fringed beaches, warm turquoise ocean waters, and lush forests and landscapes.
