Nicaragua's Mukul resort continues to receive accolades
Situated along Nicaragua's Emerald Coast, Mukul Beach Golf and Spa is solidifying its reputation as the leading luxury resort in Nicaragua. The resort has been featured in Forbes magazine recently and has also taken home several awards including the 2014 Trip Advisor Travellers Choice Award for best hotel in Nicaragua.
Mukul Beach, Golf and Spa in Nicaragua is continuing to raise its international profile gaining praise from some of the most respected experts in the tourism industry. Forbes magazine- one of the world's most widely respected publications- recently published a detailed piece on hotelier Carlos Pellas' motivation for launching the luxury all inclusive beach resort on Nicaragua's Emerald Coast.
In the article Mr Pellas was quotes as saying:
"My biggest motivation to build Mukul was not a return on investment, it was to create a family legacy that would help pull my country out of poverty".
The resort, which Forbes goes on to describe as "a hidden gem on the Emerald Coast", is as well known for its jaw dropping views of the Pacific and its relaxing spa as it is for its close ties to the local community. The resort aims to highlight some of Nicaragua's best loved attributes including its local cigars, coffee, grass-fed beef, rum and of course its local art, with approximately 90 per cent of the art and decorative items on the resort locally made.
Similarly, the majority of the staff members are from the local community and as Mr Pellas put it:
"Mukul and Guacalito [the resort development where Mukul is situated] are true examples of sustainability... the development of the local communities are very much a part of the growth and success of the resort".
This is not the first time that Mukul has gained international recognition this year, as the resort was named as the best Nicaragua hotel at the 2014 TripAdvisor Travelers' Choice Awards. Additionally, the resort was also named the leading hotel in Nicaragua at the 2014 World Travel Awards besting its peers including Barcelo Montelimar Beach, Crowne Plaza Hotel Managua and Hilton Princess Managua.
Nicaragua, the largest country in Central America, is becoming a popular holiday destination for European travellers. A recent report released by the Nicaragua Tourism Board announced an 8.4 per cent increase in the number of visitors to the country in the first five months of 2014 when compared to the same period last year. Notably, the number of holidaymakers from Europe increased by 9.3 per cent with 39,502 visitors with the largest increase (10 per cent) coming from the UK with 5,019 holidaymakers.
