Ritz-Carlton to take over proposed JW Marriott project in Turks and Caicos

The proposed JW Marriott hotel and casino development in Turks and Caicos is likely to be taken over by Ritz-Carlton after Desarrollos Hotelco Turks and Caicos indicated to Government officials that the hotel group intends to switch brands.

The original JW Marriott hotel and casino development was proposed for Grace Bay, on the island of Providenciales in Turks and Caicos but the luxury hotel brand Ritz-Carlton is now in negotiations to operate a multi-story hotel and condominium project. Ms. Parool K. Shah, the Regional Director of Public Relations for Ritz-Carlton for the Americas, explained:

"I am delighted to confirm that The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company will indeed open a resort in beautiful Turks and Caicos' Grace Bay as part of the global development pipeline, sometime after 2016."

An anonymous source added:

"It is true to say that there will be a delay in what was supposed to be a JW Marriott Hotel and Casino in Grace Bay, but I also have to stress that it will be a very positive delay because the entire scope, scale and cost of the project will increase and this will be of tremendous benefit to the entire Turks and Caicos Islands."

The official said that architects are in the process of re-designing plans for the high-end tourism development in order for it to meet the Ritz-Carlton standards.

The Turks and Caicos Islands are a nation situated in the West Indies, north of the Dominican Republic and Haiti, and southeast of The Bahamas.

The Caribbean country boasts 40 islands and cays, of which only eight are inhabited, and the country is just 90 minutes from Miami.

The island of Providenciales spans 38 miles and is home to stunning natural landscapes including the famous Grace Bay beach, the naturally-formed limestone opening called The Hole, and Chalk Sound, a long coral reef, which is thriving with marine species, and a large lake with turquoise water and a collection of small cays.

Providenciales is more built up than many other islands in Turks and Caicos and it has a wide selection of luxury beachfront hotels and resorts, white sand beaches, and gourmet restaurants, while the capital island, Grand Turk, is rich in history and is home to colonial-style buildings and ruins, a luxury cruise facility and pier, and several museums and attractions.
