The Outrigger Mauritius Resort and Spa celebrated its recent opening with a lavish grand party last week that was attended by 350 VIP guests and the Mauritius Minister for Tourism, Michael Sik Yuen. The new 181-room Mauritius resort officially opened in January 2014, and is Outrigger's debut property in the Indian Ocean.
Following its recent opening in January this year, the Outrigger Mauritius Resort and Spa officially celebrated last week with a grand party and 350 VIP guests.
Attending the lavish event at the new Mauritius resort on 16th April was guest of honour, Michael Sik Yuen, the Mauritius Minister for Tourism, along with senior executives from Outrigger Hotels and Resorts and guests from Hawaii, China, Australia, South Africa, France and the UK.
The opening of the Mauritius Resort and Spa marked Outrigger’s debut in the Indian Ocean and the party followed a nine-month multi-million dollar renovation of the property.
The party was held on the beachfront of the luxury hotel and included entertainment from acrobats, dancers, musicians, mime artists, and a spectacular firework display over the sea.
During the evening, the cultural ambassador of Outrigger, Kaipo Ho, dressed in traditional Hawaiian costume, showed his gratitude to the Mauritian hosts with four Hawaiian chants and blessings. He presented a Hawaiian koa wood canoe paddle to the General Manager, Frederic Chretien, which symbolises the partnership between two ocean islands and the start of a journey together.
“I’m very proud to see Outrigger Mauritius Resort and Spa joining the league of the best hotels in Mauritius. There is no doubt that Outrigger will bring a new dimension to the tourism industry here.” Michael Sik Yuen told guests.
David Carey, the CEO of Hawaiian-based Outrigger Hotels and Resort, added:.
“Outrigger is excited to be in Mauritius. We believe we can bring a special breed of hospitality where the culture, the employees and the place are valued and translate into a special experience for guests.”
The five-star beachfront resort in Mauritius is located on the southern tip of the island in the lush Bel Ombre nature reserve, with the sparkling azure ocean to one side, and the verdant sugar cane plantations on the other.
The 181-room hotel has three swimming pools, three gourmet restaurants, a kids club, an exclusive Club level, and the tranquil Navasana spa where guests can enjoy a range of pampering and relaxing treatments and services.
