Fourth terminal planned for Punta Cana Airport in Dominican Republic

The Punta Cana Group has announced that a fourth terminal will be built at Punta Cana Airport in the Dominican Republic. The airport is currently the ninth largest in the Caribbean and Latin America and in 2013, it saw five millions passengers pass through its terminals and this is expected to increase by ten per cent this year.

The Dominican Republic’s busiest airport is set to get a new terminal in the near future, according to officials.

Frank Rainieri, the CEO of the Punta Cana Group that owns Punta Cana Airport in the Dominican Republic, announced that a fourth terminal is planned but no opening date has been confirmed yet.

The airport is the ninth largest in the Caribbean and Latin America in terms of passenger volume and in 2013, five million passengers passed through its terminals.

More than 60 per cent of travellers who are visiting the Dominican Republic arrive via the Punta Cana airport and Rainieri has predicted visitor growth of 10 per cent a month this year.

Punta Cana is located on the east coast of the Caribbean island nation and the area is renowned for its world-class golf resorts and designer championship golf courses. The region’s turquoise ocean provides plenty of opportunities for scuba diving and snorkelling activities, swimming, windsurfing, sailing and deep-sea fishing adventures, while the Bavaro area is home to the famous award-winning Bavaro Beach and an array of luxury all inclusive beachfront hotels, casinos, boutique shops, theatres, gourmet restaurants and stylish bars.

Holidaymakers can hike through lush nature parks, swims with dolphins on Dolphin Island, watch the sun set on catamaran cruises, or relax and soak up the Caribbean rays on a peaceful pristine white sand beach.

The Dominican Republic is a Caribbean country that occupies the eastern two thirds of the island of Hispaniola which is shared with Haiti. The nation has breathtaking natural landscapes including majestic mountains, vast lakes, winding rivers, crystal clear aqua ocean waters, and unspoilt white sand beaches.

The country is a hotspot for eco-tourism, featuring the world’s first Whale Sanctuary and established protection zones that cover more than 20 per cent of its land and coastal areas.
