A new boutique hotel will be opening to guests next month in the colonial city of Santa Domingo. Casas del XVI is located in "Ciudad Colonial", the historic district of the Dominican Republic capital and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Made up of five individual houses that date back to the 16th Century, the boutique property will have a total of 17 guest rooms with king or queen beds, and elegant decor and furnishings.

Guests will be able to enjoy modern in-room amenities including flat-screen TV and DVD player, iPod docking stations, air conditioning, and wireless Internet. Individual smart phones will be loaned to guests on arrival and there will be butlers, concierge service, and English-speaking chauffeurs available.

Two of the houses will have courtyards where guests can enjoy al fresco dining with butler service and there is an outdoor swimming pool at Casa de los Mapas, a cigar bar, and a library.

Managed by Prohotel International, the Santo Domingo hotel will be a member of the Small Luxury Hotels of the World and is scheduled to open on 23rd April, 2014.

There are plans to have 20 restored 16th-century colonial houses on the complex by 2016.

The city of Santo Domingo is divided by the Ozama River and features old Victorian houses, tree-lined streets, luxury hotels, casinos, historic monuments, and tourist attractions such as Columbus's Lighthouse, where the explorer's remains are buried; the open caves of the Parque Nacional Los Tres Ojos; and the National Aquarium.

The Colonial Zone features several examples of 15th and 16th century architecture; beautiful churches, cathedrals and convents including the Iglesia Regina Angelorum and the Convento de los Dominicos; and museums such as Alcázar de Colón, Museum of Duarte and the Museo del Ron Dominicano which turns into a rum bar at night.

The Malecon Boulevard is lined with nightclubs, casinos, restaurants, cafes and museums and is perfect for embracing the local lifestyle, cuisine and entertainment that the Dominican Republic capital has to offer.
