Tunisair Express has announced that it will be adding a third weekly flight to its schedule between Malta and Tunisia next month.

The airline will be launching a service from Malta International Airport to Tunisia on Fridays from 1st April, 2014, and it will join the existing weekly flights to the country's capital Tunis, on Wednesdays and Sundays.

Med Laamouz, the General Manager of Tunisair Express in Malta, explained:

"This new flight will not only better serve the existing demand but should encourage both business and leisure weekend trips between the two destinations, which are only 70 minutes' flight-time apart."

The new flight gives travellers more opportunities for twin centre holidays where they can enjoy a break in both Tunisia and Malta thanks to the close proximity between the two nations.

Tunisia is a country in North Africa that sits south of Italy and Malta and has a Mediterranean Sea coastline boasting an array of sandy beaches.

The capital city of Tunis is rich in history and has an old medina and a French colonial new town and attractions including museums, traditional souks, and the Zitouna Mosque, the largest mosque in Tunisia that dates back to the 8th Century.

The country has many popular beach resorts such as Monastir and Sousse where holidaymakers can relax on beautiful beaches and swim in warm azure ocean waters.

History lovers can enjoy tours of ancient ruins such as the Phoenician Carthage site which dates back to the 6th Century. The Saharan desert is also accessible and boasts stunning scenery where Star Wars fans can visit the village of Matmata that was used as the set for the young Luke Skywalker's home of Tatooine in the film.

Tunisair is the country's national airline that was established in 1948. The air carrier operates flights across Europe, Africa and the Middle East to major cities including London, Manchester, Paris, Frankfurt, Lisbon, Athens, Madrid, Moscow, Dubai, Cairo, and Kuwait.
