Curacao listed in TripAdvisor's 10 Most Affordable Caribbean Island Destinations

CNN has released its list of the 10 Most Affordable Caribbean Island Destinations after the leading travel site TripAdvisor priced 20 islands with its TripIndex Caribbean.

Ranking in 7th place was the tropical island of Curacao which is famous for its excellent snorkelling and scuba diving conditions and cost $5,833.

The islands were ranked according to the cost of a seven-night holiday for a group of four, with return flights from the United States, seven nights accommodation, six dinners and a half-day snorkelling excursion between 1st March and 30th April.

The 10 most affordable Caribbean Islands were listed as Puerto Rico, Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago, Dominican Republic, St Maarten-St Martin, Bahamas, Curacao, Bermuda, Aruba and Grenada.

Curacao is the largest of the five islands that are located in the Netherlands Antilles in the South Caribbean Sea. The island is located off the coast of Venezuela and is famous for being one of the Caribbean's best scuba diving destinations thanks to its calm turquoise warm ocean waters and colourful coral reefs that fringe the island's white sand beaches.

The island is rich in history and its capital Willemstad is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, while towards the west of the city, there are the remains of Piscadera Bay Fort, an eighteenth-century fortification that was used to protect the island from attacks from invading forces over the centuries.

The island boasts charming pastel-coloured buildings that show off the Dutch Colonial architecture and the Hato Caves are home to impressive stalactites and stalagmites, and drawings that date back at least 1,500 years.

Nature lovers can hike around the vast Christoffel National Park and catch glimpse of the thriving wildlife species, while scuba divers and snorkelers can enjoy 60 diving sites in crystal clear waters where they can swim alongside marine species such as angelfish, parrotfish, groupers, yellowtail snapper, trumpet fish, sea turtles, sting rays, lobsters, green moray eels, lobsters and vibrant coral.
