Turks and Caicos listed in TripAdvisor's Travellers' Choice Top Ten Islands in the World
The world's leading travel site, TripAdvisor, has revealed the winners of this year's Top Ten Travellers' Choice Islands. The island of Providenciales in Turks and Caicos has been ranked in second place in the list of Top 10, just behind Ambergris Caye in Belize. The Caribbean island spans 38 miles and is home to the picturesque Grace Bay Beach.
TripAdvisor, the world's leading travel site, has announced the winners of its second Travellers' Choice Islands.
The Caribbean island of Providenciales in Turks and Caicos was ranked in second place in the list of Top Ten Islands in the world, after being beaten to the top spot by Ambergris Caye in Belize.
The annual awards recognise more than 100 islands across the world and lists the top ten islands in Africa, Asia, the Caribbean, Europe, South America, the South Pacific, and the United States.
The winners are determined by members of the travel site based on the quality and quantity of the destination's most highly-rated hotels, restaurants, and attractions during a 12-month period.
Barbara Messing, the Chief Marketing Officer for TripAdvisor, explained:
"There is something transporting about an island vacation, and these Travellers' Choice Islands winners will help travellers find their next escape. From the coral reefs of Ambergris Caye to the beaches of Ko Tao, these winning islands have been highly rated from travellers around the globe."
The island of Providenciales spans 38 miles and is home to stunning natural landscapes including the famous Grace Bay beach, the naturally-formed limestone opening called The Hole, and Chalk Sound, a long coral reef, which is thriving with marine species, and a large lake with turquoise water and a collection of small cays.
Providenciales is more built up than many other islands in Turks and Caicos and it has a wide selection of luxury hotels and resorts, white sand beaches, gourmet restaurants, and a vibrant atmosphere, while the capital island, Grand Turk, is rich in history and has colonial-style buildings and ruins, a luxury cruise facility and pier, and plenty of museums and attractions.
The Turks and Caicos Islands are situated in the West Indies, north of the Dominican Republic and Haiti, and southeast of The Bahamas.
The nation boasts 40 islands and cays, of which only eight are inhabited, and the country is just a 3.5 hour plane journey from New York and only 90 minutes from Miami.
