British Airways to introduce direct flights to Punta Cana from London Gatwick

British Airways has announced that it will be introducing a new service to its collection of Caribbean flights this winter. The UK's leading airline will launch to weekly direct flights to Punta Cana (PUJ) in the Dominican Republic in October, 2014, just in time for the country's high season.

The twice-weekly non-stop service will depart from London Gatwick (LGW) and will give tourists more options when it comes to booking their winter breaks in the Caribbean.

Colm Lacy, British Airways' Gatwick Commercial Director, commented:

"These extra flights mean families and holiday-makers will have even more choice where to enjoy the winter sunshine, with fantastic direct services to Punta Cana. This builds on the extra flights we introduced for our Summer 2014 season, thanks to adding an extra Boeing 777 to our long-haul Gatwick fleet making our flying schedule to top leisure destinations even better."

The new Dominican Republic flights will start from £592, and include all taxes, fees and charges.

The Dominican Republic is a Caribbean nation that occupies the eastern two thirds of the island of Hispaniola that is shared with Haiti. The country boasts breathtaking natural landscapes including majestic mountains, vast lakes, winding rivers, crystal clear azure ocean waters, and pristine white sand beaches.

The country is also a hotspot for eco-tourism, featuring the world's first Whale Sanctuary and established protection zones that cover more than 20 percent of its land and coastal areas.

Punta Cana is located on the east coast and the region is renowned for its world-class golf resorts and designer championship golf courses. The surrounding turquoise ocean provides plenty of opportunities for scuba diving snorkelling swimming, windsurfing, sailing and deep-sea fishing adventures, while the Bavaro area is home to the famous Bavaro Beach and an array of luxury hotels, casinos, boutique shops, gourmet restaurants and stylish bars.
