Sandals Barbados to temporarily close in April for refurbishment

Sandals Resorts International has announced that it will be carrying out an extensive refurbishment programme on one of its Caribbean properties this April. Sandals Barbados will temporarily close its doors to the public while renovations, expansions and upgrades are carried out.

Following the success of the newly-opened Sandals LaSource in Grenada, the hotel group is keen to refurbish its Barbados hotel to provide a unique luxury experience for holidaymakers.

The property is due to close on 1st April, 2014 for nine months but tourists who have already booked their holidays at the resort can relocate their booking to any Sandals Resorts, excluding Sandals Emerald Bay, Sandals Royal Plantation and Sandals LaSource Grenada.

The refurbishment programme includes the addition of seven new gourmet restaurants, bringing the Sandals hotel's total to ten; upgrades and renovations to all of the property's 280 guest rooms and suites; a new exclusive Club Lounge and departure lounge; an expanded Red Lane Spa; and a new wedding garden.

Gordon 'Butch' Stewart, the Chairman of Sandals Resorts, commented:

"When we acquired this property in August, we knew we were buying great potential; here was a lovely resort that could be transformed into something truly magical. The time has now come for the ‘Sandalisation' to start and drive forward into what is an exciting future for Sandals and Barbados as a destination. We cannot wait to reopen."

Sandals Barbados will also have a new Discovery Dining programme that will include the new restaurants such as Butch's Chophouse, French-style patisserie Cafe de Paris, 'Soy' Japanese sushi, and Sandals Resorts International's first ever Indian restaurant.

When the all-inclusive Caribbean resort reopens, it will have two brand new tennis courts, eight new lifts, a swim-up pool bar, fire pits and a beachfront whirlpool, a newly-decorated lobby, and the introduction of Sandals English Guild-trained butlers.

Located on ten acres of land on the site of the former Couples Resort in St Lawrence, Sandals Barbados opened its doors in November, 2013.

Sandals Resorts International owns and operates a collection of all-inclusive luxury Caribbean hotels and resorts in destinations including St Lucia, Jamaica, Turks and Caicos, Antigua, Grenada, and The Bahamas.
