Travel + Leisure magazine has recently listed the one of Corn Islands in Nicaragua in Central America as one of the "Best Places to Travel in 2014". Little Corn Island is located 56 miles off Nicaragua's Caribbean coast and was highlighted for its fresh seafood, slow pace of life and breathtaking snorkelling beaches.
Nicaragua's Little Corn Island has been listed in Travel + Leisure magazine's "Best Places to Travel in 2014".
The island is one of the two Corn Islands located 56 miles off Nicaragua's Caribbean coast and it was highlighted for its fresh seafood, laidback lifestyle, and stunning snorkelling beaches.
Travel + Leisure' magazine's Jason Harper commented:
"The fresh lobster is cheap; the hammocks, plentiful; the pace, blissfully slow. This snack-bite-size island (it's just over one square mile) located 56 miles off Nicaragua's coast is easily walkable or bikeable by trail, making it a breeze to get to snorkelling beaches such as Cocal."
Harper went on to add that the new Yemaya Island Hideaway and Spa on the island has "16 ocean-facing cabanas sandwiched between two stretches of sand, and a.m. yoga sessions...if you're up".
Little Corn is car-less and visitors can hike through the dense tropical jungle, snorkel in turquoise crystal clear waters, relax on unspoiled white sand beaches, or savour the delicious freshly-caught seafood cuisine.
Great Corn is the larger of the two Corn Islands and has hiking trails, rolling hills, scuba diving hotspots, seafood restaurants, and Picnic Beach with sugar-soft white sand and gentle rolling waves. Tourists can reach Little Corn Island in less than an hour via a boat or ferry trip.
Nicaragua is the largest country in Central America and boasts coastlines on the Caribbean Sea and the North Pacific Ocean, making it a popular destination for surfing and tropical holidays. The colonial cities of Granada and Leon are leading tourist attractions with historic churches and museums, while the Corn Islands on the Caribbean side are a favourite for travellers seeking beach and nature escapes. The country was recently listed in the "Best Value Destinations" category in Lonely Planet's "Best in Travel 2014".
Miami, Uruguay, Santa Marta in Colombia, Playa Carrizalillo in Puerto Escondido, Mexico, and Rio de Janeiro in Brazil were all highlighted among Travel + Leisure magazine's list of top places for 2014.
