Sandals International Resorts to open new Beaches Resort in Antigua

Sandals Resorts International has announced that it will be building a brand new Beaches Resort on the Caribbean island of Antigua.

The hotel group signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Government of Antigua and the new Beaches Resort will be built on the company's existing Grand Pineapple Resort in Long Bay in Antigua.

Gordon "Butch" Stewart, the chairman of Sandals Resorts, explained:

"As a country, Antigua is very dear to our hearts because it was the first place we went when we ventured outside of Jamaica in 1991. This particular deal has been a long time coming - we've been discussing it for over three years - but it is well worth the wait. Antigua is a stunning country and we've enjoyed no end of pleasure operating here. It's often said that there's 365 beaches in Antigua, now there's another!"

Beaches Antigua will have a collection of one to four bedroom guest rooms and suites, 12 restaurants serving international cuisine, a cinema, an Xbox Play Lounge, a waterpark, and a BMX track.

The new Beaches resort in Antigua will be the hotel group's fifth Beaches-branded property in the Caribbean. Beaches Barbados is also scheduled to break ground in mid-2014 and this year saw the opening of the US$120m Key West Village at Beaches Turks and Caicos.

The twin-island nation of Antigua and Barbuda is located between the Caribbean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean and it is famous for its wide selection of stunning pristine pink and white sand beaches; one for every day of the year.

Sandals International Resorts owns and operates luxury all inclusive Caribbean hotels and resorts in Jamaica, St Lucia, Antigua, The Bahamas, and Turks and Caicos under the three brands: Sandals Resorts, Beaches Resorts and Grand Pineapple Beach Resorts. The hotel company will be also opening its first resort in Grenada on the 21st December, 2013.

Sandals Resorts launched its first Jamaica hotel in Montego Bay in November 1981, and since then it has grown into one of the leading hotels groups for luxury holidays to the Caribbean. Over the decades, the group has launched a number of "firsts" in the hospitality sector such as being the first hotel chain to offer swim-up pool bars, the first to offer satellite TV, and the first to offer personal butlers for its guests.
