The long-anticipated opening of the newest Sandals resort has been pushed back until later this month due to adverse weather conditions.

Sandals Hotels and Resorts announced that Sandals La Source Resort Grenada was due to open its doors on 12th December, 2013 but this has been delayed until 21st December, 2013.

More than $100 million has been spent on renovating the luxury all inclusive beach resort but bad weather on the Caribbean island and operational difficulties has delayed the official opening.

In a statement, the CEO of Sandals International Resorts, Adam Stewart, said:

"Sandals LaSource Grenada is without question the most innovative project in our company's history and the resort is the pinnacle of engineering and design which will set new standards of hospitality.

"The level of work required to create such a resort is immense and the team on the ground has been working tirelessly to ensure that we provide the award-winning holiday our guests paid for. However, throughout this project, we have been badly hampered by adverse weather conditions, particularly during the last few weeks, that have slowed our progress."

Guests who had booked their holidays at Sandals LaSource Grenada during the period when it was due to open will be relocated to the hotel group's other Sandals, Beaches or Grand Pineapple properties and the company will reimburse "any associated airfare change fees," as well as offer a complementary return stay at Sandals in Grenada.

Sandals LaSource Grenada Resort and Spa is located on 17 acres of land on the Pink Gin Beach in Grenada and its luxurious accommodation is positioned within three individual villages: Italian, Tahiti and Pink Gin.

The Caribbean all inclusive resort has wide collection of upscale facilities including, the outdoor open-air "Living Room," with a bar, piano, and billiards; the Red Lane Spa with nine treatment rooms and a nail and hair salon; a dedicated wedding lounge; gift shop; and nine restaurants serving gourmet international cuisine, including Sandals first top-tier steakhouse called Butch's Chophouse.
