Bahamas to host first edition of Festival Rum Bahamas in February 2014

The very first Festival Rum Bahamas has been announced for February 2014 and the event will be hosted by the Caribbean nation itself.

The festival will celebrate the nation's rum, food and culture and festival organisers are keen to showcase their produce and culture to tourists visiting the Bahamas holidays and local residents alike.

Alexandra Lynch, the creator and visionary behind the festival, explained:

"The Bahamas has a lot to offer, more than sun, sand and sea. We wanted to create a festival that showcased aspects of our history that we don't typically celebrate, piracy, rum-running, and how those past events have given birth to our distinct flavours and a culture of appreciation for the art and beauty of rum making."

During the three-day, visitors will be able to take part in sampling, master classes on rum, bartending and cocktail-making competitions, and enjoy Caribbean music and food. Exhibitors will include local, regional and international rum exhibitors and tourists in the Bahamas will be able to purchase many varieties of the popular spirit.

"Festival Rum Bahamas is an excellent fit with the tourism product of The Bahamas, it provides yet another compelling reason for visitors to travel to The Bahamas, and it also shines a spotlight on our world class rum, our tantalising cuisine and our cultural craft products."

Stated Andrea Jackson-Coakley, the marketing partner from the Ministry of Tourism.

Organisers of the festival say that the 2014 Festival Rum Bahamas will offer a unique cultural experience for Bahamians and tourists enjoying the Bahamas. The Operations Director of the newly created event, Catherine Chisnall-Mitchell, added:

"Prepare to eat, to dance and to have three days of purely distilled enjoyment."

The Bahamas nation boasts a collection of idyllic islands, such as Bimini, Berry Islands, Crooked Island Mayaguana, Acklins, The Berry Islands, Nassau, The Exumas, Grand Bahama Island, and Harbour Island. The main island of Grand Bahama is home an array of beachfront Bahamas hotels and resorts; a collection of unique beautiful pink sand beaches created from fractured seashell mixed with sand; plus a number of natural attractions including, an underwater limestone cave system; tropical botanical gardens, stunning nature reserves.
