Spice Island Beach Resort in Grenada wins Virgin Holidays' Gold Award for eighth year

Grenada's Spice Island Beach resort has been awarded the Virgin Holidays' Gold Award for the eight year in a row.

The luxury Grenada resort was ranked as the Number One property in the tour operator's exclusive Platinum Collection and the coveted award was presented during the World Travel Market 2013 awards' presentation in London this week.

In September this year, the Caribbean hotel was temporarily closed while extensive renovations and upgrades were carried out.

Located steps away from the famous Grand Anse Beach, Spice Island Beach Resort offers an array of upscale facilities for tourist taking Grenada holidays including a modern Cybex equipped fitness centre; a children's activity centre; gourmet restaurants with fantastic culinary programmes including serving seven-course dinners and diet-friendly dishes; and swimming pools. Guests can also enjoy complimentary tennis, cycling, kayaking, snorkelling, and Hobie-cats rides.

The Grenada hotel's Janissa's Spa has been redesigned and now features a separate hair salon, a new manicure and pedicure facility, and a new couples' massage room and sauna area with double outdoor showers. The outer deck of the spa has been turned into a relaxation area.

The property was also recently voted as the number one property in the Caribbean by members of the leading travel site, TripAdvisor.

Grenada is famously known as the "Island of Spice", due to its position as a leading producer of spices such as Cinnamon, cloves, ginger, mace, allspice, orange/citrus peels, wild coffee, nutmeg and organic cocoa.

The Caribbean island is home to breathtaking landscapes made up of pristine white sand beaches, verdant green rolling hills, mountainous peaks, winding rivers, and cascading waterfalls.

In Grenada, tourists can visit the island's attractions including the spectacular Underwater Sculpture Park, the Grand Etang Nature Reserve with its stunning crater lake, the Seven Sister Waterfalls; the famous beautiful Grand Anse Beach, and Belmont Estate, a former 17th century plantation and base for the renowned Grenada Chocolate Company products.
