Trinidad and Tobago embrace the Ziplining trend

Trinidad and Tobago has recently installed its very first zipline. Located in the western hemisphere in the town of Chagaramas, the seven line course provides the perfect opportunity to take in an immersive panoramic view of Trinidad's breathtaking scenery. This latest move is yet another reason why Chagaramas is shaping up to be one of the top holiday destinations in the Trinidad and Tobago.

Trinidad and Tobago embrace the Ziplining trend

Those adventure seekers who are considering booking their next holiday to the Caribbean will be pleased to learn that the popular ziplining trend has finally caught on in the twin island nation of Trinidad and Tobago. The Chagaramas Development Authority installed the island's very first zip line as part of its ongoing efforts to develop the holiday attractions at Chagaramas, a town in the western side of Trinidad.

The newly installed course is comprised of seven zip lines and can take anywhere between 45 minutes to one hour to complete. At its highest point thrill seekers will be 100 feet off the ground – providing the perfect opportunity to take in Trinidad's stunning landscape including one of Trinidad and Tobago's best-loved beaches, Macqueripe Bay.

Trinidad is known best for its annual Carnival celebrations, which attract visitors from around the globe, outside of the Carnival season, travellers are more often drawn to Trinidad's sister isle Tobago because of its serene white sandy beaches like Pigeon Point and Englishman's Bay. However, in recent times more steps have been taken to diversify Trinidad's tourism product beyond that of the Carnival season and Chagaramas is one town that seems to be getting it right.

In addition to the zipline, notable initiatives in Chagaramas include the recently opened Boardwalk, which is the ideal place for visitors to take a long evening stroll before heading off for dinner. The nearby Lighthouse restaurant at the Crews Inn Hotel and Yachting Centre would be the perfect place to sample the unique Trinidadian interpretation of international cuisine.

Other attractions worth experiencing in Chagaramas include the local golf course, hiking trails, the Gasparee Cave, the Saltpond and the Chagaramas National Park where nature lovers can bask in Trinidad and Tobago's breathtaking flora and fauna and witness the howler monkeys, capuchin monkeys and maybe even the ocelots in their natural environment.

Ziplining has dated back as far as century ago with the indigenous people of the Himalayan Mountains were though to use zip lines as a means of transport. However, it was in the 1970s when the concept of zipline tours for leisure took off and since then it has become commonplace in most of the world's leading holiday destinations. The trend is already popular among other Caribbean countries including, Antigua & Barbuda, Barbados and Jamaica.
