Barcelo Punta Cana Resort receives coveted Green Globe certification

One of Barcelo Hotels and Resorts' properties in the Dominican Republic has been recertified under the Green Globe Certification programme.

Barcelo Punta Cana Resort has been working hard to preserve and protect the Caribbean coast over the last few years so locals and tourists can continue to enjoy the stunning region while visiting the Dominican Republic. The hard work has now paid off after its green initiatives and social responsibility programmes have been recognised by the world-renowned certification system.

"Commitment to sustainability is a valued company practice for Barcelo Hotels and Resorts," stated Sandy Pfeil, the General Manager of the Barcelo Punta Cana.

"We are delighted to see our resort recognised among the world's most beautiful eco-friendly properties. It is our responsibility to protect our surrounding environment in every way we can, to train our staff and promote awareness among our guests, suppliers, and associates. While contributing to a better future for generations to come, our sustainability efforts also add a competitive element."

Some of the initiatives that have been implemented at the Dominican Republic hotels include waste management, energy saving and biodegradable products, sustainable design and construction, regular staff training to enhance ecological awareness, restoration of the resort's native ecosystem, and informing guests about the importance of reusing towels and sheets.

The Barcelo Punta Cana is located on the picturesque stretch of the white sand Playa Arena Gorda beach which is close to the Bavaro Lagoon and the tropical East National Park.

The Dominican Republic hotel's design and architecture is Spanish-influenced and its 798 guest rooms boast beautiful views of the ocean and beach. In Punta Cana tourists can enjoy upscale facilities such as seven gourmet restaurants, a casino, a lavish full-service spa, a kid's club and numerous swimming pools. The hotel was ranked among the top five green resorts by Travel Agent Magazine for its eco-friendly practices.

Barcelo Punta Cana also encourages guests to participate in activities that benefit the local community and environment. These include educational seminars, tree planting, and meeting and helping children at local schools.
