Maroma Resort and Spa recreates traditional aldea Maya in Cancun

The Maroma Resort and Spa in Riviera Maya in Mexico has recreated an Aldea Maya – a traditional Mayan village - on its grounds where guests will have the opportunity to sample traditional Mayan cuisine and experience the region's local culture.

Tourists enjoying Cancun holidays at the luxurious resort will be invited to taste the flavours of authentic regional and such as black bean stew with fruit salsa and banana leaf cooked lion fish with mint and tomatillo.

Evening meals will be served in a purpose-built hut with a Palapa roof surrounded by the lush shaded gardens. Staff will demonstrate traditional Mayan cooking methods using clay pans over an open fire. All of the ingredients will be sources from local producers, organic farmers, and the resort's milpa style farm which involves farmers planting a dozen crops at once.

Maroma will be showing its commitment to the local communities and the environment by donating a portion of the Aldea Maya proceeds to ecological and educational programmes that will benefit local Mayan communities.

"Our daily contact with the Mayan people has given us the opportunity to participate in the economic, social, cultural and ecological development of the communities in a responsible and respectful manner," stated Federico Echaiz, the General Manager of the Riviera Maya hotel.

Located on the Yucatan Peninsula, the Maroma Resort and Spa is a favourite for travellers who are seeking tranquil Cancun holidays in the Riviera Maya, with stunning landscapes surrounding the property such as a lush jungle, tropical gardens and a pristine white sand beach.

The Cancun hotel's architecture reflects traditional Mexican haciendas and the resort has a selection of stylish guest rooms, suites and villas that boast modern amenities, plus terraces or balconies that overlook the sparkling ocean, colourful gardens and jungle.

While visiting Cancun, tourists can enjoy the resort's upscale facilities including the tranquil Kinan Spa with its wide range of Mayan-influenced treatments and wellness programmes; numerous restaurants and bars; an observation tower that provides 360-degree views of Maroma's Bay; a fitness centre, swimming pool and two tennis courts; and a charming boutique with locally-made handcrafted souvenirs, glassware and pottery.
