Dominican Republic recognised as "Best in Travel for 2013" by Lonely Planet

The world famous Caribbean holiday destination, the Dominican Republic, has just been recognised by Lonely Planet as “Best in Travel for 2013”. Lonely Planet is a renowned travel publisher that annually issues a list with its top ten travel destinations. This year, they have received the recommendations of its staff, authors and online community for the edition of the book, with the final list being decided upon by an in-house panel of travel experts.

The varied activities, thrilling adventures, rich culture, isolated credibility and most of all, the essential X-factor are among the many aspects Lonely Planet considers every year for the drawing up of the top ten list. The publisher has recommended holidays to the Dominican Republic and nine other countries due to special events that will take place next year, recent developments, or the fact that these are flourishing destinations that travellers should visit before the crowds set in, in order to have that once-in-a-lifetime relaxing experience.

The commissioning editor the Americas, Catherine Craddock-Carrillo, pointed out that the Dominican Republic had all the features they hoped to find in a holiday destination. “We chose the Dominican Republic for Lonely Planet’s Best in Travel 2013, as the country has all the elements of a perfect vacation destination” she said “With sun-drenched beaches, ecotourism, a rich culture of music and dance, influential art galleries and museums, and of course, warm and welcoming people, it’s no surprise that the Dominican Republic is a bout to see a new wave of visitors.”

According to Lonely Planet’s calculations, Dominican Republic holidays will be more popular than ever in 2013, and no one is more excited about these positive predictions than the workers of the country’s tourism industry. Magaly Toribio, a marketing advisor for the nation’s Ministry of Tourism, expressed the great satisfaction Lonely Planet’s recognition had brought to them all.

We are thrilled to be recognised by Lonely Planet as a ‘Best in Travel 2013’ destination. This recognition of our magnificent island nation’s pristine nature, unparalleled culture and gastronomy underscores and affirms the growing awareness of the magical beauty and culture found only in the Dominican Republic,” she declared “Pour famously friendly people, rich arts, museums, and dozens of national parks and protected areas attract new visitors each year, who return often to enjoy our world-class resorts and refreshing sun, sea and sand.”
