Latest figures suggest Abu Dhabi hotels are set for a record-breaking year

Recent figures released by the Abu Dhabi Tourism & Culture Authority (TCA) indicate that the first nine months of 2012 have been a record breaking period for the 131 Abu Dhabi hotels and hotel apartments. The figures reveal that 1,741,330 guests checked into hotels in Abu Dhabi in the January- September time period- an impressive 15 per cent increase on the same period in 2011. Of the achievement, HE Mubarak Al Muhairi, the director general of the TCA Abu Dhabi remarked, “This is an encouraging performance given that the same comparative period has seen a significant increase in hotel and resort inventory”

Abu Dhabi’s TCA reported an 11 per cent growth in domestic tourism as well as upward trends in all of the city’s key international source markets, with the most notable growth coming out of Asia, the GCC and Europe. While the UK continues to be Abu Dhabi’s leading source market, China and Russia have shown encouraging signs of growth with a respective 78 and 44 per cent increase in the number of travellers enjoying holidays in Abu Dhabi in the Q1-Q3 2012 period.

Not willing to rest on its laurels the TCA have indicated that its future goal is to entice more travellers from India to book Abu Dhabi holidays with direct flights to Abu Dhabi soon to be available from Ahmedabad via UAE national carrier Eithad Airways, “We have our sights firmly focused on the Indian market and hope to have on-the-ground representation in place very soon to nurture further trade and media relations… We have significant air accessibility from India to Abu Dhabi which will be further enhanced next month when Etihad Airways begins daily flights from Ahmedabad – its ninth destination within the Sub-continent” explained Al Muhairi.

With even more travellers planning Abu Dhabi holidays in the fourth quarter of the year thanks to several key events including the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, 2012 is on target to be one of the strongest for the UAE city’s tourism industry. “We are well placed to achieve our yearly target of 2.3 million hotel guests, particularly as we have a busy Q4 ahead with the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, Abu Dhabi Art, the Mubadala World Tennis Championships and the opening of the Yas Waterworld still to look forward to” noted Al Muhairi.
