British Airways recently celebrated its newly launched service from Gatwick Airport in style. The Gatwick North Terminal was converted to a typical Vegas style bar where passengers were greeted to tunes from a grand piano, showgirls, circus performers and complimentary champagne. The new route means that passengers planning holidays in Las Vegas now have more options than ever before with British Airways who also operate a daily service from Heathrow.

Britons hoping to experience everything that a holiday in Las Vegas has to offer will be pleased to learn that British Airways is now offering direct flights to Las Vegas McCarran International Airport from London Gatwick Airport. The Las Vegas Convention & Visitors Authority in collaboration with British Airways celebrated the new route in typical Las Vegas style. BA customers were treated to a unique Vegas themed surprise at the newly opened Gatwick North Terminal check-in area, a section of which was set up to mimic the scenery at a Las Vegas bar, fully kitted out with a grand piano, showgirls, circus performers, complimentary English champagne and a four-tier ‘inagural cake’.

The new route will be serviced by a Boeing 777 airplane kitted with a Club World cabin which comes with six foot fully flat beds- ideal for those passengers who prefer a more luxurious flight experience. The service is scheduled to run on Mondays, Wednesday and Saturdays and is now the second BA operated route to Las Vegas departing from London, with a daily service from Heathrow Airport in operation since October 2009.

British Airways managing director for Gatwick, Silla Maizey, who was on hand to cut the inaugural cake, noted, “Las Vegas is incredibly popular with British Airways customers and we’re delighted to be able to start flying there from Gatwick. It’s the perfect route for our holiday makers, thanks to the sun and fun there is to be had there”.

The United Kingdom is reported to be the number one source market for overseas travellers booking holidays in Las Vegas with approximately 418,000 UK travellers arriving in the city of lights in 2011- a figure that represented nine per cent of all international arrivals in Las Vegas in 2011. Senior vice president of marketing for the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority, Cathy Tull stated the following of the launch, “Las Vegas is pleased that British Airways has expanded its service from London to Las Vegas by offering this new non-stop service from Gatwick… The UK is our number one overseas market and will play a key role in increasing international visitation to 30 percent of our total visitation over the next decade”.
