Santiago de Cuba dedicates 32nd Caribbean Festival to Martinique with Feast of Fire

Casa del Caribe, the Cuban Ministry of Culture and the International Committee of Caribbean Festivals are now proud to announce the 32nd Caribbean Festival to be held from 3rd to 9th July, 2012, in Santiago de Cuba. For the most amazing Cuba holidays in Santiago during this festive ocassion, Fiesta del Fuego is a promising festival not to miss in July.

The Caribbean Festival, also known as the Feast of Fire, is the largest gathering and representation of diverse popular cultures and traditions of the peoples in the Caribbean region. At the same time, it provides an opportunity for debate and to defend the different Caribbean identities, express solidarity among neighbouring Caribbean nations, promote diversity, friendship and hope.

This July, holidaymakers enjoying holidays in Cuba's legendary city of Santiago will have the opportunity of experiencing intense days of magic realism showcased through multiple elements of African origin, the continent where the Caribbean's ancestors came from.

This year, Santiago de Cuba will be celebrating the Caribbean island of Martinique, a nation that, as the vast majority of Caribbean islands, has preserved the techniques of traditional and diversified craftsmanship, a unique culinary tradition with its typical condiments; rhythms like the zouk, biguine and mazurka; the sounds, colours, smells and flavours of an island rich in culture and miscegenation.

  • Stage shows performed in theatres and outdoors
  • Religious ceremonies and rituals
  • Visual art exhibitions
  • Artistic galas representing the cultures of the countries to which the festival has been dedicated and showcasing Cuban culture
  • Meetings of oral narrators and debates among the visiting artists and intellectuals representing different expressions of popular and traditional culture
  • Music workshops and poetry debates

All this and more will be crammed in 6 days of non-stop celebrations where locals and visitors alike will mingle to join in the street parades, the conga lines, the intoxicating rhythms and the performance stages for a unique holiday experience in Santiago de Cuba that no tourist will forget.
