Rezidor Hotel Group to Enter the Kenya Hotels Market
One of Europe's leading hotel chains, Rezidor Hotel Group of Belgium, has announced that it will be joining the up-and-coming industry for luxury hotels in Kenya by opening a 126-room hotel in Westlands, Nairobi.
Owners of the Radisson brand of hotels, Rezidor Hotel Group in Belgium, have announced that they will be adding a new property to the luxury Kenya hotels market.
At present, most luxury hotels in Kenya are operated by Serena, Hilton, Intercontinental and Sarova chains, but the launch of the new Rezidor Hotel Group hotel shows that competition is growing amongst high end properties in the East African country.
The Rezidor Hotel Group said last week that it is seeking a bigger share in Africa’s hotel business and the chain looks set to renew its global battle with the Hilton Hotel chain, one of its biggest competitors in several countries across Europe and Middle East.
Kurt Ritter, President and CEO of Rezidor Hotels, said: “Africa lacks internationally branded hotel rooms or shows a dated hotel inventory in many cities, which is why it is one of our key markets for future business development. This emerging continent offers huge natural resources, improved infrastructure and increasingly stable systems.”
The Rezidor Group operates more than 400 hotels in 62 countries and during 2010, the company generated sales of over 812 million euros. The European hotel chain arrives in the African country just as it is seeing an increasing number of international travellers visiting Kenya for business as well as holidays.
Over the last three years Kenya’s capital city of Nairobi has seen an increase of 2,000 hotel rooms across a range of properties but the majority of them are within luxury hotels in Kenya.
The additional capacity has helped improve the quality of Kenya hotels across the city with new properties debuting in the market such as Crowne Plaza, Sankara, and Ole Serani.
Kenya is one of the most popular tourist holiday destinations in Africa and is home to stunning landscapes including Mount Kilimanjaro, and numerous national parks. Nairobi is one of the only cities to be bordered by a game reserve. The Nairobi National Park is a fantastic place for African safaris and boasts an array of wildlife including giraffes, lions, black rhinos, and over 400 species of birds.
