Luxury German Sailing Ship Brings Tourists to Santiago de Cuba

The luxury sailing ship, Sea Cloud II, sailed into Santiago de Cuba last week, bringing 45 German tourists to brief holidays in Cuba.

The tourists were offered opportunities to explore some of the Caribbean island’s historical, cultural and heritage sites and natural attractions during their brief one-day Cuba holidays in Santiago de Cuba.

The Cuban travel agency, Viajes Cubanacan, arranged a visit to the national landmark, Santa Ifigenia Cemetery, and the UNESCO World Heritage Site, San Pedro de la Roca Castle, which is rich in colonial history and home to a museum.

A colourful and vibrant show of Cuban music and dancers greeted the German travellers as they arrived on the island, and though their holidays in Cuba were short-lived, they were treated to a show called “Santiago’s Night”, which featured a local band and dancers aboard the luxury ship before sailing off to their next destination, Dominican Republic, at midnight.

The sailing ship, Sea Cloud II, is over 100m in length and is part of a fleet of luxury sailing ships which belong to the German company, Sea Cloud Cruises. The ship features lavish cabins with elegant décor and furnishing and modern amenities; gourmet dining and fine wines at the restaurant; a relaxing lounge area; a boutique and a library.

The Discovery ship will be bringing more travellers to brief holidays to Cuba when it arrives in Santiago de Cuba on 1st April, 2011. Santiago de Cuba is the capital city of the Santiago de Cuba Province which is situated in the south-eastern area of the island, approximately 540 miles south-east of Havana.

The city is a popular cruising destination and is famous for its sea port, July carnival, traditional dances and some of Cuba’s most famous musicians and composers including Benito Antonio Fernández Ortiz and Eliades Ochoa.

The region is a popular area for scuba diving activities where divers can explore over 70 diving sites which boast an array of ancient shipwrecks and colourful coral reefs.
